Scams and Call Centres

Ha ha, yes I had forgotten, years ago I had a call where the man was breathing heavy and either doing or pretending do something rude, I laughed out loud and said ‘Is that all you have got’, shouted my kids telling them there was a pervert on the phone, then put the phone down. He never phoned again.

My ex-husband did a nasty joke years ago. I was in the kitchen, he was by the tv (shocker) with the children when the phone rang. I answered it, I didn’t realise it was a very clever recorded message saying some such as ‘Are you an idiot, have you passed your test, you nearly ran me off the road blah blah’. It was very clever as it gets your heart racing immediately and you start shouting back. Well, I have a hidden nasty temper and do not like my driving criticised so answered very loudy 'How dare you ----- ---------s you can ----- --------- off and if I ever find who this is I will rip your ----- bits off etc etc then slammed the phone down. When I went in the front room he and the children were gob smacked as he had told them it would be funny. I got my own back, he had a nice rain mac for work, I sowed a label on the outside of the upper collar that said ‘Flasher mac’. Took two weeks before he realised.

Anyway, there is a website where you can report phone callers who call you. I now and again get calls from abroad, just one ring. I never answer anything unless it is on my caller id list. I have used this several times and the phone calls stop for quite a while. Nuisance calls I think it is.

hee hee!! hebeyellow. hilarious but taught your kids new words! your revenge sounds sweet!

A few years back I had caller line identification (CLI) on the phone.

The call comes in, I recognise it as a scammer, and answer:

“Ya, bitte” and the conversation on my side continues in German for several minutes. I did refer to the caller by a very rude word. As it was someone probably Chinese, there was a fair chance I could have gotten away with it for longer, but I wanted to finish my breakfast. So I said something not very complimentary and hung up. My wife was highly amused.

CPR call blocker = best £20 I’ve ever spent !!

Having been born and raised to the West of Offa’s Dyke I always respond to any nuisance calls in Welsh - seems to do the trick!

sounds like a good strategy. when i get a call (dodgy sales or call centre) that starts with “am i speaking with mr mogace, i say no i am the butler / PA / secretary” and close the call I think i might expand the range to include parole officer and senior investigating officer
