Run out of money and DWP holding things up..how do you speed them up?

I claimed ESA back in August when I was hit by a relapse. I was then offerred a work from home job which started a few weeks later and I signed off. I was sent the ATOS form but had signed off and was working so it was ignored. I wasn’t claiming so not relevant. I stopped the job at end of December because I couldn’t continue as the ‘work from home’ theory was rubbish and I kept having to go in. Being 200 miles away it did me in, Mark had to take me so it cost money for his b &b and so I stopped and reclaimed ESA. That was end of December. ESA was awarded but no money. Three phone calls so far and I’ve done and sent everything they asked for…no money. Rang this morning to be told that on the 16th Jan there was a note put on the claim ’ PCA assessment not cleared’. They will ring me back today. What does that mean? The lady I spoke to didn’t know. Pat

Hi Pat,

Nothing messes up benefit claim more than signing on and off and then back on again. Even though they are supposedly geared up for reclaiming unless you specifically ask for a rapid reclaim it will chug through the system at its own slow rate.

With a rapid reclaim they look at the previous claim and reinstate it without you having to make a fresh application. There are strict lime limits (of course) but I can’t seem to find them for ESA – I think its about 12 weeks.

With ref to what was on your file - PCA means Personal Capability Assessment. This is where they look at what you put on the ESA50 plus the results of an ATOS medical and award you points which dictate eligibility to ESA and which group you would go into – support or WRAG.

Hi, I hope you do get your money tomorrow.

Isn`t our Jane (Wendels) great at helping us understand the workings iof the DWP?

Bless you Jane.

luv Pollx

if you figure out how to speed them up please let us all know. With my esa claim it took 8 weaks before i got any money at all. The only thing i know of to get money quick is crissis loans but you can only have 3 in a year. I was lucky to go through all this before the 3 in a year rule came in so i had one every 2 weaks james

this is happening too often , i had a young woman in last week with five kids to feed, would suggest a visit to Citizen Advice Bureau, they will also keep a record of this for there stats, (it come under social policy)

My lad has been put on ESA contributory and it will run out in July, yet hes not earning any money and has no other income. I tried contacting DWP and was fobbed off, then sent letter and it was ignored, so Im going to MP next, hes offered to help.

The whole system is up the creek, how can they expect disabled to find money when there aint any available from anywhere.

I do hope you get your money tomorrow, you cannot keep warm nor eat on fresh air, or perhaps they think you can? Miracle or what.

It’s wrong just wrong that they do this to people with genuine disabilities mine runs out Oct unless the appeal goes in my favour and they put me in support. Somehow I think it’s all very sinister my husband works for the Government and we’ve already had CB taken off us. I hope your MP can help Bren I really do, thinking of you Suex

Pat If you look to the right hand side of the forum there is a statement that says http://www.mssociety.org.uk/ms-news/2013/01/disability-benefit-changes-could-affect-thousands Sue x
