Relocating to Maidstone

Hi there,

I’ll be moving to Maidstone, Kent, soon and it’ll be my first time of living in this area. It would be great to get some advice on what MS care is like/if any MS services are available/neurologists etc. in Maidstone, based on anyone’s experiences.

I’m in Ashford and lived in Tunbridge Wells for 30 years before that. I assume that you will be under the Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone NHS trust.

The MS services in West and East Kent are fantastic in my experience and you also have the MS therapy centre in Canterbury, only 20 minutes drive away.

There are MS groups available in Kent, you can find their details online or I may be able to help.

Give me a shout if you need any other information. I have a friend who works for the Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone NHS trust so I may be able to get information for you.

I used to work in Maidstone years ago it’s great town. Don’t know anything about the MS services over there I am in Margate and our NHS treatment is great but it is a different trust. Cant help anymore than that.

Candice - it looks like your nearest MS nurse is in Gillingham.

I used to work in Maidstone as well. Even went to school there. OMG, has it ever changed - a pedestrian town centre. Does the old cannon still stand in the High St?

I used to work in Dewhurst the butchers in Gillingham over forty years ago I bet it has changed in that time.

The MS nurse for Maidstone is based at Tunbridge Wells hospital but she also has clinics at Maidstone hospital. I think she covers a large area so may have clinics elsewhere to. She is lovely and very helpful. I am not sure but I guess you would register with a local GP to get a referal, although I am not sure if a referral for her would come from a consultant but if you already have an MS nurse ask if you can be transferred over?

There are consultants neurologists at Maidstone hospital who cover MS but you may also get referred to one at Tunbridge Wells, Pembury hospital, which is where I go. The MS therapy centre at Canturbury also offer some services for Maidstone area although I am not sure how that works. I got transferred over from the London College hospital in Queen Square, London for services. Hope that helps :slight_smile:
