Receiving MRI results?

Hi,
Had an MRI probably 6wks ago and I was just wondering whether you received the report through the post or didn’t hear anything til you saw your neurologist again, and how long after the initial appt that was?
I’ve not had a follow up appt through so not sure how long it will be, I’m wondering about doing an FOI request to get this from the hospital but unsure if they’ll give it until the report has been officially returned to me in case there is alarming news, in the same way GP receptionists won’t tell you your blood results til the GP checks them. I’m sure there isn’t any problem as I’d paid for a private MRI in March and it was fine, but the NHS said they couldn’t use that so repeated it, makes me pretty sure this one will be clear but I would still like to know for definite as I keep looking at the images from my private scan and thinking “but what about that white smudge?! And is that anything??” etc!!
Any experiences of receiving results?
Thank you!

Hi Cc1. My initial MRI was a long time ago so I can’t remember for sure how long I had to wait but I do recall it was some frustrating weeks. I now get annual MRI scans and always shave to wait at least 3-4 weeks for the results. I never get to see the scan itself ( although I suppose I could get a copy if I asked) . The scan always goes to the Neurologist who then writes me a letter.

Best thing to do is to simply phone the hospital - neurology team and ask if there is any news or any indication of when you might get the results.

I should say I can even view the actual scans too- it’s really quite neat- it links to the MRI and if the radiologists notes anything in particular, I can see where they tagged things.

I usually receive my results within a day or two- I can read the results through my chart online. The doctor always calls me to explain them bc of course I don’t really know what they mean and they know I’ll probably google them. Do you know if you have an online chart system through your medical system?

I don’t know - and perhaps I should try to find out!

Thanks for the replies
No, as far as I’m.aware I don’t have any kind of online chart or records system, I tried to set one up with my GP but wow that was difficult, I gave up! But actually even the GP hadn’t received these results when I spoke to them last so I guess that wouldn’t have helped in this instance anyway, but no, nothing that links to the hospital system.
