Really feeling down

Really have had enough of this year - just bad news after bad news. Been told this morning that swab results are back taken in hospital during my last tysabri infusion show I have mrsa in my nose and I have been given cream and bath wash as treatment. Totally freaked out by this. :frowning: Has anyone had this and successfully treated it?

Hi so sorry you feeling so low. No never had mrsa but sending supportive hugs. ((((()))))))

Hope it gets better soon xx

(((Hugs))) I haven’t had MRSA but given the state of the NHS budgets, I very much doubt they’d give out special bath washes etc if they didn’t actually work.

I hope things pick up for you soon.

Seeing your post, I went to have a read at this:

Patient.co.uk is the website that my GP always directs me to if I want to learn more about something affecting me.

I was not surprised to see that it confirms that lots of healthy people are MRSA carriers, but don’t know it, but surprised to see that MRSA swab testing is becoming normal for frequent visitors to hospital (which is presumably why you had one) and not just in-patients or people soon to have elective surgery. I guess it is one of those things that varies from hospital to hospital - I haven’t been tested as far as I know (and I guess I would have noticed of someone had stuck something up my nose!), and I’m on Tysabri too.

Quite honestly, it doesn’t sound like anything much to worry about. But when life is just piling on one thing on another, it all takes its toll, I know.

I hope that you get some nice news soon - it sounds as though it is definitely your turn.

Hi Anon, Seriously this is absolutely nothing to worry about. It’s only a problem if you have a wound the MRSA could invade, just had surgery, are very poorly. So please it really is nothing to worry about. Thousands of people will have MRSA. and not even know. Take care Min xx

Sending you hugs. MRSA swabs do vary between hospitals, I have had 3 taken from different areas in 2 different hospitals and then 2 different areas in another 2 different hospitals. The ones in london took more than the local Hertfordshire ones. 3 of the times I was admitted after a&e visits thanks to MS and the otger time was when I had my lp. I’m assuming they weren’t positive as was never told the results. To be honest on all occasions was feeling really rough I didn’t think to ask. The only one I probably was more with it for lp appointment but think I was more worried about the needle going in my back to think. Doesn’t sound pleasant, hope you feel brighter soon. Barney Doesn’t sound nice

Hope things improve for you soon. All the above advice is good, don’t worry about MRSA  I’m starting Tysabri soon, so will no doubt have all these fun and games  Kaz xxx

Thank you to you all for your replies. Alison, the web link was a great help. I have got my head around the whole thing now. However, being a person with anxiety and OCD hand washing and cleaning, I haven’t found it easy and my hands are so very red and sore from even more hand washing. Thank you again. Once again this fab forum comes to the rescue! X x
