Pupil size.

When I look in the mirror occasionally, I notice that my right pupil is bigger than the left. I know that I’m on red alert being undiagnosed, but has anyone else had this?

Could be nothing, but pupil size can be a sign of optic neuritis so you should get it checked out, just in case.

Hi Anon,

One of my pupils is smaller than the other. Years ago I had a squint in the eye with the smaller pupil, thought nothing of it. Then I got O/N and Glaucoma plus cataracts. When I saw the surgeon he operated on my eye and told me that my pupil was stuck to my Iris and that’s why the pupil remained smaller. May I suggest you see an Othamologist who would be able to refer you if he feels it necessary. I’ve had many an arguement with nurses and doc’s who insisted that the pupil should dilate when a certain drop was inserted, but it never did. Even now one of my pupils is smaller than the other. But get it checked out to put your mind at rest.

Hi Anon

I too, have experienced the different sized pupils - like one being larger/smaller

than the other. I had a carotid dissection 10 years (causing a stroke), and noticing

these odd pupils went to the optician. He tested the reaction to light with a torch, and

decided that one pupil was just reacting slowly hence the size difference and it may

be the result of the stroke. Since then, I have been back to same optician reporting a pain

at the back of my eye. Again, he looked, and found nothing. Now, just recently, I have

experienced MS symptoms and am currently waiting for a dx. So, it’s possible that the

pain in my eye may be linked to optic neuritis too. If you are worried, mention it to your

neuro - I haven’t yet, but I fully intend to. It’s a little weird, but not alarming.
