i was hoping for some advice and tips for getting off pregabalin. I’ve been somewhat down the last year or so, probably depressed due to anxiety, fatigue and being overweight. I feel foggy and flat a lot of the time and I have regular gastric problems, acid, trapped wind and constipation. I’m not suffering a lot of pain and my spasms are mild and usually on waking. I feel sure if I could get rid of the pregabalin I would be more alert and active then I could lose some weight and be happy again too. I’m taking 75mg twice a day and every time I try to reduce the dose I get worsened spasms then increased anxiety within 48hrs. Is this possible or am I imagining it, should I just persevere and see? The docs don’t seem to want me to change the drug because I am really well settled on it (just take that one) and they don’t see the weight or inability to lose it as being a big issue. Any thoughts please xx
I had issues with Pregablin, i won’t go into details but I felt awful and put on weight. I went back to Gabapentin and felt so much better and lost some weight.
Please take medical advice before you do anything as it may be the right drug for you despite the side effects. It didn’t work for me but everyone is different.
For over 3 years i have been on and off Pregabalin and right now in taking two 150mg twice per day so total dose 600mg per day.
It is helping pain but coming off caused me so much pain i didnt know if my ms or the pregabalin was the cause.
I tried Duloxetine for a short time and they worked so well i was amazed but after 3 months i started getting intense flashes or lightning bolts in the brain so i had to spend a month reducing and i returned to Pregabalin.
So after Gabapentin Duloxetine Amyltriptamine and a few others i keep coming back to Pregabalin, i cant say what works for all but i can say its for me at least fairly well tolerated …
BUT- i do worry about how bad my mental state is due to Pregabalin, i feel it may be making me feel low and less focussed than i would otherwise be.
Today in the Times, there was a small article about pregabalin and gabapentin. They said that they were likely to become controlled drugs because they have been used for illicit purposes by prisoners and heroin users. Also that the rate of deaths due to them has been rising.
So it seems that if you don’t already have a prescription for either, but want to take them for nerve pain, it may become more difficult.
