I am due to start Pregabalin very soon, for Pain killers. I have been reading up on this drug quite a lot, to try and verse myself with it. I noticed from reading up and from posts on here, that apparently; ppl using this drug tend to put weight on.
So I am after some more info regarding this please. I was wondering that. if I try and do a bit of exercise per week and also have a healthy low GI diet; that surely this wouldnt happen to me?
So could anyone give me some advice on this please?
Also, could anyone tell me how a tablet can make a person put weight on please? As I just do not get it, as surely there cant be that many calaroies in a tablet?
I started Pregabalin about a month ago, and as yet i haven’t put any weight on, but like you i was worried about this side effect after researching it.
I had to increase my dose over 3 weeks, building upto 75mg morning and night. However i found that i couldn’t tolerate the 75mg Morning dose, so after consulting with my MS Nurse, i now take 25mg 1st thing on a morning, 25mg at dinner time and the 75mg on a night. I know this is only a small dose and can increase upto 600mg per day, but wanted to start on a low dose.
i have noticed an improvement in my pain initially but this last few days its noticable again, so maybe in the near future i may have to increase the dosage.
i suspect that for some people it must increase their appetite, hence the gain in weight. But personally i haven’t experienced this.
Hi Anna Im about to start pregabalin too. Im probably wrong but it might be sonething in the tablet that makes you hungrier. Weight gain is something I dont want to experience as Im getting married this year and should be losing weight not putting it on x
I did not put on any weight whilst trying pregablin in 2012. I am currently trying it’s sister drug Gabapentin and I have lost weight. I would worry about it myself. Give it a try and see what happens.
