Pip

Well, good luck Bazza1968.

How long have you had MS? Just wondering if it makes a difference to getting a home visit.

I have RRMS - but had it 17 yrs now - and housebound - essential trips only for me.

Went to see my GP too - she wrote a good letter for me. I also have my MS Nurse coming Tues to write a care plan and OT and Community Rehab person to write reports on me - I said on the form that this info is to follow.

Hopefully they can wait for these reports - if they read them that is!

Anyway - I’ve just sent the bloody PIP form off and used the recommended websites:

https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/sick-or-disabled-people-and-carers/pip/help-with-your-pip-claim/fill-in-form/

and the help of two other people one to type and the other to ask me questions - it took about two week to fill the form!

We printed my responses out and sellotaped them into the boxes - it was easier than writing by hand and we have the a copy on the laptop if they lose it.

I also had it sent by registered post - about £2.50

Total nightmare - form!!

So fingers crossed - I get a home visit - or even better - no visit - since I have had MS many years now and have longstanding symptoms documented by my GP.

Yes, Fay, I also hope you get no visit necessary stamped on your form.

Good luck, Fay.

Hope you put in something about the extra assistance you needed to fill in a basic (not!) form in the parts of the form about requiring help with reading, writing, dealing with personal finance and decision making!

The DWP will absolutely HATE you for sellotaping your answers to the form! They have to scan them so you will have made the process 10 times more difficult. You naughty woman Just make sure you print out all of your answers and be prepared to give copies to the assessor in case s/he has got them or can’t read how they have scanned. (My assessor hadn’t been provided with all the pages I sent and some had been duplicated by the person scanning them.)

To save YOU time and effort if you have to fill in a form for DWP again it might be better to put your answer on a continuation sheet (numbered with your name, address and reference on top) and just write "see continuation sheet number X, attached.

Depending on where you are based your assessment will be by either Capita or ATOS. Capita seem to prefer home visits (although they do do some at their premises). Conversely, ATOS seem to prefer their premises but do some appointments at home.

Fingers crossed for you.

Hi, Good experience …start to finish in 3 months , using the DWP text service so they text you when they receive your forms etc . Get plenty of supporting documentation if possible . Face to face assessment was fine but I should have pushed for home visit so do detail why , if it is, a 9am appt may not be physically possible etc . Assessor went through my form with me and asked me various questions including *how did you get here *how do you spend your days *does your medication work Got a favourable response Good luck
