PIP mandatory reconsideration

Hi all just a quick pip question, i have finally relented and applied also currently in process of reducing my hours at work..i did get standard daily allowance but i dont feel that the assesor understood or considered all the ms ins and outs.. i did see on the report marking me down on pip because in the assesors words.. WORKS A JOB SO HAS COGNITIVE AND GENERAL MEMORY ABILITY..weirdly i prepped and planned for the assesment like it was a final exam ..included my daughter in the prep and the meeting as she can help keep me on track..question should i be greatful to have received the standard or should i apply for it to be reconsidered thoughts would be welcome TIA Nicky

Hi Nicky :waving_hand:

If you’re not happy with their award then, definitely do ask for the mandatory reconsideration. There is anecdotal evidence of the assessors low balling applicants on their first go as standard.

The fact that you believe that the assessor didn’t properly understand your personal situation is a good, valid starting point.

This will take some work - grab a pad and a pen, sit down with your award letter and make notes of each bit that you believe they’ve got wrong and why and, how many points you think should have been awarded for each part.

For the next bit, I found it easiest to call them (it takes a while to get through) eventually someone will go through each section with you - this is where your notes will be handy.

Keep their letter and your notes - you may need them again. I was turned down on 2 or 3 mandatory reconsiderations and, only finally granted at the first tier tribunal stage. It’s hard work (probably on purpose) but it is achievable. None of us wanted MS and none of us wanted to need PIP but, here we are. Keep at it - you will get there.

There are organisations out there that can help you successfully navigate their system, if you need some extra help with it :slightly_smiling_face:

Good luck mate x
