Hi, I dont understand how you mean…not heard of owt like this before…???
pollx
You can’t have it the same time as your pension, so paid weekly on top on your pension. Its paid on its own accord every 28 days as 1 amount.
Hi Poll, what i mean is, can i top up my state my pension witch i know has a shortfall ???
julien,
are you getting state pension and dla/pip?
pollx
I guess you mean plugging holes in your NI record? That is something that lots of us who have had to retire early will be faced with, now that the number of years’ NI contributions that a person needs for full State Pension has been raised to 35.
I do not know the answer to your question but one thought occurs (and this comes with the big caveat that I am absolutely no expert on this stuff and am probably talking through my hat…): have you considered the possibility that, some time between now and your State Pension age, you might become eligible for disability-related benefits that come with NI credits attached? If there is any chance that this might help plug the gap for you, it might be worth holding fire for now rather than biting the bullet and buying added years with your own money - from whatever source! Of course I might just have misunderstood and be talking rubbish.

What I mean is, if (for instance) you can see you are going to be 2 years’ short of the 35 years you need for full State Pension, and you buy those 2 years through voluntary contributions, and then some time down the line you find yourself qualifying for ESA (which comes with NI credits) for 2 years, you aren’t going to get your voluntary contributions back.

thanks Alison, as you can see born 1967 make me 49 with spm/s & a little concerned about pensions,
im not retierd yet! but the idear of any sort work left me yrs ago unfortunately! BIG TIME!! DX 30yrs old
then thingx M/S wise went worse ~~~7_8 yrs, back… so now think’n a bit more!
I do have 3 smaller private pensions, but i think i may get penalised for them
thank again, julien keep smiling,
Hi juju if you were retired now and have a shortfall you might be able to get pension credit if when you officially retire and same system is in place then you might get pension credit iff you have savings over a certain amount you may get savings credit.not very clear but someone else might explain it better.
