Part of my MS or something else?

Hi all,

So, I was diagnosed in November of last year and for the past month now at least once a week I get these horrendous pains in my chest and stomach area. They just come out of no where although do seem to occur more often when I go to bed at night and lie down. I’m then up all night on the toilet or sitting in the livingroom trying to breathe through the pain.

It’s a horrible cramping and burning pain and normally it ends up in my back as well. It gets so bad that all I have to focus on is breathing and I can’t even speak or do anything. I just have to sit there and either be physically sick into the sink (which I feel immediately better afterwards) or wait hours for it to pass.

My partner thinks it’s severe indigestion but I’m not too sure and think it could be MS related.

Anyone else experience this and have any tips on how to help?

  • Little info about me:
  • I’m 25
  • non-smoker
  • I’m not on any medication yet. I’ve tried Paracetamol and Gaviscon to try and relieve this but no joy.

Thanks!

Hi, I`m wondering if it a severe case of acid indigestion? Some years ago I had chest pains and burning and was referred to a cardiologist. He did lts of tests and found it was acid indigestion. He put me on 30mg of omrezapole, which reduced to 15mg a day. It did the trick. For some reason it was changed to lansoprazole…I forget why, but it does the job. If ever I run out the problem return…now I don’t run out! I wouldn’t just leave this and accept it is MS. See your GP. Bouds x

Hi Bouds.

I was really hoping to avoid my GP as they’re absolutely abysmal to deal with and have a tendency to gaslight their patients. They’re known for fobbing off patients with “Surely the pain isn’t as bad as all that. Take some paracetamol and make sure you’re getting at least 6 hours of sleep a night!” and “This just sounds like anxiety. Here’s some apps that offer mindfulness techniques”. They’re truly awful.

I do have an appointment with my Neurologist on the 30th of March but just thought I’d pop a wee post on here and see if anybody had any temporary solutions in the meantime.

If it gets any worse between then and now though I think you’re right and I’ll just have to grin and bare it and hope my GP believes me.

Cheers Bouds, I appreciate the reply, friend xx

It does sound very like indigestion. But I also had something like this about 10 years ago that turned out to be a stomach ulcer. My gp gave me tablets that fixed it in one or two days, and I’ve never had it back since. Does the pain improve when you’re not laying down? I couldn’t sleep a night because of the pain, but sitting down or standing up considerably less pain. See your GP.

I’ve had horrendous stomach pain which turned out to be an ulcer. They can be caused by drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen. The worse my pain got the more pills I swallowed, producing a vicious circle of pain and increasing drug consumption.

I agree with Boudica and Dollydaydream, you need to see your doctor. If your doctor won’t listen then change your GP. It is allowed.

Actually could be gallstones. either way this is obviously something to be sort of concerned with. tell me if it was your partner in this distress what would you do? ignore it, i doubt it. If your vomiting it should be seen.

You need to see your GP ASAP.

If it is gallstones gaviscon wont help i know i was that person with gallstones and it crippled me and that was many moons passed now.

NOT SAYING IT IS gallstones, but it could be or even GERD. either way the symptoms are severe enough to warrant immediate checking with your GP. sorry.

A concern of having MS is we or our GP puts everything we have down to our MS, get this checked out and don’t be fobbed off. A simple course of Omeprazole might be all you need to put this right.
