other folk's clogs

Summat that’s always a bit difficult to say to anyone who reacts in a way us MSers dont like/understand/whatever…is try an hour or 2 in my shoes pal!

We can’t ever expect anyone whose legs work properly, or who can think clearly and quickly in a pressured situation…to KNOW how we feel.

I have tried to explain my fear of falling out of a chair, hoist, bed. They try to but cant do it.

Then you get nurses/carers who are trained by testing equipment on each other. They tell us they know how it feels…No they dont…they cant possibly know…but we cant expect them to either, can we?

If they feel they may fall, they can stick their legs and feet out and find their balance…we can’t.

Why am I posting this? It’s cos I just picked up on this theme in a few recent posts.

And no, we dont want sympathy…what we would like is empathy.

We have to try to be more tolerant of how able bodied folk fail to understand us. Just saying…

the videos i used dont work anymore as i had to delete my old youtube. but you get the gist. xxxx

Good points , well made. As an MSer I think I have quite good empathy, but I am just as guilty of making some snap judgements about others with different life experiences or conditions. I got snippy with someone who walked in front of me despite my obvious use of a rollator, fortunately before I opened my gob (to stick my foot in) I saw the previously hidden white cane they were using. I felt about 2 inches tall. It is not always all about me or my issues…
