Officially back

I saw my neuro almost two weeks ago and we agreed to stop the Tecfidera - things have clearly progressed over the last year, I now use crutches instead of a stick, and yes, I can still topple with 2 crutches. We discussed PRMS etc. but progression is still happening so officially back to a PPMS diagnosis

I feel kind of weird about it, I had a call yesterday from Alcura to arrange my next delivery so it reminded me. I can already say I don’t miss going straight to the kitchen each morning, to line my stomach with yoghurt before taking the blue rattley pill! And on the plus side, I can now have a glass of wine WITH my dinner, rather than having to wait an hour after the pill.

Anyhow, my neuro was clearly quite intrigued when I said I was trying this ‘mimic fasting’, he asked quite a few questions about how I was tackling it, the changes I’d noticed and scribbled notes furiously! I’m intending to blog about it soon - symptoms aside, even after having 3 weeks off it, I’m happy to confirm I’ve lost a stone… another half would be nice but happy to stay under 9 stone, even if just by a smidgen. That’s over a couple of months too so it’s not a silly quick loss and appears I can maintain it crosses fingers

I’m starting again today so on day one of my ‘fast’. I’ve had lots of water, a full fat yoghurt and 2 figs so far, snack time next I think and sourdough is out of the freezer ready for dinner

So I’m officially back to PPMS, even though I never really left this group but I’ll keep aiming for at least staying on my feet.for a bit longer.

Sounds like my story Sonia. I’m now PPMS (we think) but my Neuro is allowing me to stay on Tec until I see her again in October. I’m expecting to be taken off it then. I can’t say how I feel about it all really. It’s still MS and I’m still needing a chair for any real distances. :frowning:

Hmmm I mimic fasting by denying that I did actually eat those fish n chips.

We had breakfast before we went out today but by lunch time I was all shaky. You cant leave this group Sonia, none of us want to be in it but we are glad of the actual company of others who are in the same boat.

This is what the MS society says about it:

Today was actually very easy, I had a migraine so after sleeping most of the day, the first food that passed my lips came up again about an hour later So for tea I had soup & 2 slices of bread. Then I had a granola bar, 2 figs and a yoghurt so about 600-700 cals. I’m now pushing the boat out and having a mug of tea but I still feel full and I plan to go to bed fairly soon, sleep patterns allowing as they’re ignored by migraines!

There’s only limited info available but the basic rule seems to be half calories for 3 consecutive days - the other 4 days are normal and I’m not a low calorie kinda girl, luckily I don’t have a massive appetite as I love good foods - real butter, clotted cream, chocolate etc. Truthfully, we both tried the 5:2 diet at the end of last year, he was ok with it but I struggled, the calorie count on the diet days is so low! 5:2 was difficult with meds too but I was on Tecfidera and still managed the mimic-fast ok - ok, there’s still an element of hunger but Mon-Weds for me only It’s definitely worth a look

ps. profile pic shows my normal adult weight of 7 & a half stone, I was pretty much that weight aside from a short time when I almost reached 8st. When I discovered the mimic-fasting thing, I was a couple of pounds off 10 stone so I was starting to panic, I’ve never really needed to diet and whilst I still look slim-ish, it’s hard work lugging yourself about the heavier you get so it was time to curb it a little. Like I said above, getting under 9 and staying even after a few week break has made me feel more comfortable x

Hi Sonia,

Good to see you’re back and still upside down.

I look forward to reading about your diet regime as I’ve put on a stone this year and I’ve had to buy some larger shirts. Most of my trousers don’t fit either.

As you can see I’ve had a makeover. I’m not going back to that studio again. The coffee was far too strong.

The fatter my OH gets - and he does have a huge beer belly - he still wears the same size trousers. So he is in denial - because he does them up UNDER his fast belly.

l love the 5-2 diet. And like Nindancer - my fighting weight was 7st 12lb. ln fact when l had my daughter l only reached 9st. And she weighed 9lb. My weight did go up to 10 - 7 but after following the 5-2 l can keep it to 9.8 - but hoping to get down more.

l feel so energised on fasting days. And usually eat scrambled egg with smoked salmon and salad. And drink lots of water.

l am following the Dr Coimbra Vitamin d protocol - so have to drink 2 1/2 litres of water a day - this flushes the calcium out of your kidneys which is what causes toxicity.

After a few years of taking 20,000ius daily my levels reached 98. But now l take 50.000ius my levels are 300. l get tested regularly by CityAssays Lab B/ham. They rang me up about the higher level - as they say 220 is adequate. The lady l spoke to was really interested in what l was doing. And l said how much better l felt - and l told her that l take magnesium/vitk2 and drank lots of water.

l keep almost dairy free - because of too much calcium. - l told her about the book Multiple Sclerosis and lots of Vitamin D by Ana Claudia Domene - her eight year treatment with The Coimbra Protocol for Autoimmune Diseases. You can follow this on ‘Free lndeed Vitamin D Protocol.’ a facebook group.

Going to have a look at your link later Sonia, I do not like any extra weight, makes it so much harder.

Glad you’re staying with us, that doesn’t sound right, but am sure you know what I mean.

Ocado kindly sent me some fancy rice cakes so I’ve been having mashed avocado on them, bit of salt & pepper yummy I haven’t looked up how much they cost but they do throw in some good freebies, clearly linked to things you buy as this week a gluten free choc muffin was included

I’ve had scrambled eggs a few times too, tho sadly I don’t like smoked salmon. Yes, lots of water is good at staving off any hunger pangs too x

Weight is so eay to gain with exercise making you feel so bloomin weak.

Your makeover is fab x
