Ocular Migraine

I have never had any type of migraine in my life before, over the last few weeks I have had 3 episodes in all in my right eye which starts with a small part of my vision missing just off-centre, followed by flashing zigzag lines on the right side of my field of vision. Of course, I googled it and it seems that it is a Ocular Migraine. Does this have any connection to MS?

Not sure if this is related to MS, but I have MS and occasional Ocular migraine: always painless for me, comes on quickly (very scary) and usually goes pretty quickly too.

It appears that migraines in general are more common in MSers, although this account doesn’t mention ocular specifically.

MS & headache: another elephant in the room (substack.com)

I’ve had a couple since being diagnosed with ms and had never had migraines before. Just as you describe, like a kaleidoscope spot in my vision, really scary but goes away after about half hour and is then followed by a massive headache. Think it’s quite common in people with ms xx

Hi, I’ve always been a ‘headachey ’ person, but as I started to develop symptoms of MS (I’ve got PPMS), I started getting oculars migraine. Now I find they come in clusters every couple of months. They are horrible aren’t they.

I grew up in a family of migraine-sufferers, but I’ve rarely gotten them in the last 30 years. It wasn’t until a few months ago that the ocular migraines started. I Googled them, too, because I had no idea what was happening.

Mine occur in both eyes simultaneously and last about an hour. Sometimes I can ride them out, but usually I wind up in bed because my vision is so wonky that I can’t read, watch TV, or even walk right. The last time it happened, I was left with mild double vision for a couple days.

I also get ocular migraines but did so before I was aware of any MS. I’ve found that I’m particularly sensitive to tannin, so black tea or red wine will give me one in no time so pay attention to your diet and see if there’s any correlation with when the migraines occur. Worth a shot…
