No improvement on Tecfidera

Started on Tecfidera 2 months ago hoped it would greatly improve my various symptoms (numbness, foot drop, buckling knee, spine inflammation) but alas no change, been told I will be put on Lemtrada in the near future, had a benign brain tumour removed in May so this year has been nothing but hospital visits,i’ve been reading up on Lemtrada and hopefully I’l see some sort of improvement

I may be wrong but I don’t think tecfidera will improve existing symptoms, it is just there to lessen the chances of further damaging relapses.

People please correct me if I’m wrong.

Some people have found Tec sometimes work on inflammation,i hoped for any sort of improvement but unfortunately Damon symptoms are never ending

From the information I have picked up, Tec does not improve symptoms but works by hopefully reducing the amount of relapses by up to 50% thus preventing the damage from occurring and building up. Perhaps they have put you on this to help prevent further damage before you start Lemtrada.

Good Luck with your future treatment.

I was also told that Tec doesn’t cure anything but just cuts number of relapses and damage associated with them.

Best of luck with the Lemtrada.

none of the DMDs helps symptoms but reduce the number of relapses and therefore the level of disability.

maybe the thought of taking something to show ms that it won’t have you helps some people to feel more positive and therefore their symptoms feel better.

lemtrada has a lot of anecdotal stories of people being so well that it’s like they never had ms!

good luck

It is correct that tec doesnt repair any damage already caused i started tec 3 years ago and had mri last year and there was no new changes but the damage prior to starting tec is still there

Tecfidera is a not a cure, nor will it remedy those burdens already inflicted upon us. However, it is an investment towards fewer relapses and thus the severity of the disability progression such relapses can cause to accumulate. This has been trialled and proven.

For the reversal of symptoms caused by the demyelination of neurons, you need to optimise the quality of your diet and absorb as much B12 as you can get. And even then, you need more.

However, we live in hope that future therapies yield the ability to remyelinate!!!

“Thymosin beta 4, a potential therapy for multiple sclerosis designed to promote remyelination.”

"rHIgM22 is a remyelinating antibody being studied by Accorda Therapeutics… Phase 1 clinical trial to test the safety of the therapy in 72 participants with MS has already been completed. "

fingers remain crossed to the point of cracking
