NHS has 24 week waiting list - can anyone recommend a private neurologist near Edinburgh?

Hi all,

I’m new to the forum, and was pointed towards you lot by the lovely staff on the helpline at the MS Society.

I’m awaiting an appointment with a neurologist having just been referred by my GP, after experiencing intermittent odd sensations and numbness in hands and feet, which has been gradually getting worse/more frequent over the past few years.

I was wondering whether any of you have seen private neurologists in Scotland (ideally near Edinburgh but happy to travel to see someone good!), and if so, whether you would be able to recommend someone?

I’ve looked at the Edinburgh Clinic and Spire websites, but have been put off by their reviews - although they may not be representative of the care you could expect on average? Any advice/suggestions welcomed and appreciated!

Not sure whether the diagnosis is going to be MS, or possibly just accumulated damage from old horse riding injuries … but if it was MS it would help explain other odd symptoms I’ve experienced over the past 8 years or so. Double vision, slurred speech (not to the extent anyone else commented, I just thought that it was odd that all of a sudden I had to pay attention to my enunciation of words if I didn’t want to sound drunk and “schlurry”! Only lasted a few weeks. Also have had balance issues in the dark - lights go off and the floor tilts, although that seems to have improved gradually over a few years.

Thanks in advance
