Newly diagnosed and unsure where to turn

Hello, I have recently been diagnosed with MS following an MRI of my brain and spine - my main symptoms and the reason my GP ended up referring me are drop foot, veering & stumbling while walking, lack of balance and fatigue.
I was putting the fatigue down to life and perimenopause (ignoring the repeated sick days when I just needed to sleep for 24 hours then would feel OK again), but as I love to walk and it was my way to keep my MH good, I was getting desperate and miserable without an explanation. Now I can barely walk for 30 mins before I am tripping over my foot. It has progressively been getting worse over the past 2+ years.
The neurologicist prescribed Carbamazepine to help with the walking and I have been taking them now for a week and so far they are just making me more dizzy and unbalanced. I expect I am just being impatient but I am not even sure what difference I can hope for, is anyone taking this to help with walking issues?

I’ve been prescribed carbamazepine in the past for nerve pain arising from an MS relapse and it did a reasonable job but at the cost of completely knocking me sideways. I felt like I’d been sandbagged. My system might have become accustomed with time, but the relapse eased and I never had to find out. I’m intrigued to learn that it’s believed to help with walking. That’s a new one on me.

Interesting, thanks Alison - I will see it I can persevere with it a bit longer and hope it starts to help!
