Newley diagnosed, when to make CI claim?

Hello all,

I hope you’re having a good evening.

I received my diagnosis recently (rrms), and I am still trying to get my head around it all. I’m still in shock. I have CI cover but im not sure when I should make a claim. Do I wait until I have been allocated an MS nurse and start treatment, so there’s a more detailed record of my ongoing symptoms. The letter from the consultant didn’t really go into too much detail of my symptoms and I don’t want the insurer rejecting my claim. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Hi.
Apply now. MS is a diagnosis on their list that they cover. They’ll certainly try to avoid paying, I had to go to the financial Ombudsman before they paid. I nearly lost everything and the stress was awful. You dont need to put up with that.
Good luck
Cath

Thanks Cath. I will do, hopefully they’ll payout.

I’m no expert, but I think a formal dx is all you need. These things can take some time to work through, so probably the sooner you get going the better.

Hey, don’t leave it too long, with my cover I only had 3 months from the date of diagnosis to submit a claim, it was all sorted before my 1st ms nurse appointment and agreed purely on the basis of a letter from the neurologist which stated that my symptoms / mri / tests etc were all “consistent with a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis”
