Well, after 12 months of waiting I finally have my neurology consultant booked in next month. I’m kind of nervous about it and was just wondering what to expect at the initial appointment? TIA
Have you been given a diagnosis by a neurologist? Really it depends what you are at on your journey. I received my MS diagnosis one year ago so my neurologist recommended I started a DMT very soon after. My appointment coming up is a yearly review of my MS. Everyone’s appointment is different but I do know a neurologist will carry out neurological assessment at most appointments, if needed. Good luck
Fair enough now I understand. I suppose your neurologist will do all tests to determine a diagnosis! It’s common to get a review once a year after diagnosis with your neurologist.
Best wishes for your appointment
I had my MRI scan today. Took around 30 mins for brain and cervical spine scan. I was puzzled as to why they didn’t scan the whole spine though as most of my symptoms are in my legs?
I am glad to read your comment about getting your mri. Once you get feedback on your results you should mention why that was the case? All the best x
For the first neurology visit, you’ll probably chat about your medical history, any symptoms you’ve had, and maybe get a basic exam—checking reflexes, strength, coordination, that kind of stuff. They might order scans (like an MRI) or blood tests to dig deeper. Just be honest about what you’ve been feeling and bring a list of questions or meds you take.
Yes. I had my consultation and he did the usual checks which were all fine. He ruled out Parkinson’s and motor neurone and didn’t think it was MS but ordered an MRI to rule it out. The thing is if it’s not MS I don’t have a clue what is causing all these symptoms!
