Neuro letter after first meeting

Hi need some insight to what my letter means from the neurologist. I was diagnosed by her on my first visit 3 weeks ago by MRIs taken and am due to start dmds as soon as I see ms nurse already know what I’m picking lol. The letter reads… On exam today her blood pressure was 138/100mmhg. Her pupils were equal and reactive. Her fundus exam was normal.eye movement was intact with no nystagmus. There was no evidence of INO. Visual field was full to confrontation. She had slightly increased muscle tone on the right side with brisk deep tendon reflexes. She had full strength of bilateral arms. She had slightly reduced right hip flexon and knee flexon with normal dorsiflexon. Plantar reflexes were mute bilaterally. She had no clonus on the right however had a few on the left. Tried googling the words but still no clearer on meaning not due to see her again untill august after another MRI and a few months of dmds done. Thanks in advance for any help. Michelle

Hi Michelle I don’t really know what all that means, maybe if you make an apppointment your G.P they can explain it all, that what I normally do. Hope someone else maybe able to help. Polly x

Hi, I can decipher most of it for you: BP normal Pupils are both reacting and also reacting in the same way - this suggests you don’t have optic neuritis in one eye. Fundus is the back of the eye. Your eye muscles are working normally and there is no evidence of nystagmus (rapid movement of eyes side to side) or internuclear ophthalmoplegia (both issues which are common in MS) Not sure about the visual field to confrontation - they test your visual fields to see how much of your surroundings you can see at once. Increased muscle tone means that your muscles are more tense than they should be at rest (beginnings of spasticity possibly) and deep tendon reflexes are a type of reflex they test. Brisk means they are stronger than the average persons, and this would be usual with increased tone, and with MS. Both arms have full strength (bilateral means both sides, unilateral means one side). Bending your knee and hip is reduced (I assume that means slightly weak), and you have normal dorsiflexion. This is lifting foot towards you like when you walk on your heels trying to to put toes on the floor. Plantar reflex is when he scraped a point along the base of your foot, mute both sides means no response which is actually normal. Babinski which would be raising of your toe would be abnormal. Clonus is rhythmic movements on the foot (tapping) so you might move your foot up and it would tap tap tap a few times. Hope that helps Leah x

Sorry with dorsiflexion that should say trying not to put toes on floor.

Psp clonus is abnormal and associated with MS.

Thank you for translating for me was having a good day at time of first appointment I do know that my bp was actually high for me as it’s normally 80/100 but I was anxious about what was going to happen (bp was taken 0n arrival before appointment). Thanks again Michelle
