MS, Vitamin D and Osteoporosis.

Hiya guys

Hope you are all as well as can be!

I have a question in regards to vitamin d linking with osteoporosis. The osteoporosis seems to be getting much worse and dexa scans show no signs of improvement regardless of treatment.

I have asked for medical opinions but there seems to be a difficulty getting the question across! Is it advisable - according to experience - to try increase my intake of vitamin D via non prescription supplements in hope it may make things a bit better? When I was diagnosed with osteoporosis, I had a low vitamin D level and several (4) steroid treatments in a year seemed to be too burdensome on my body, I’m from an Asian background so I thought it may be a good idea to increase the vitamin D levels, currently I’m taking 1000IU a day but I have read and heard other people with MS saying they are taking a lot more and are finding it helpful. I’m confused!

Thanks very much

Zak

Obviously, you need to find out if you are deficient first and get your levels checked, but this is the Barts & London take on it.

Hello Zak

Because you have Osteoporosis, you really should be taking vitamin D under the guidance of the doctors. You also have to maintain adequate calcium levels. You can’t safely, monitor this on your own Zak.

Make an appointment with you gp and discuss your concerns.

Take care x
