Ms or not?

Hello I’m new here and would like some advice please. My ordeal started in October when I ad a attack of vertigo which lasted a few hours, a few days later I noticed I had shakiness feeling all over my body. After several visits to go they said it’s anxiety. This went on for 2 months then in December I all of a sudden got pins and needles in my legs, hands and face this lasted a few days. Went back to go who refereed me to a neurologist. After the pins and needles I was left with cold sensations in the same place! Anyway saw a neurologist privately who did some basic tests and said he didn’t think it was ms or anything like that and said see how I go. He did think it might of been some medication I had started taking! So for January my sympathies toms seemed to ease off and I hardly noticed them but just recently I have started with the shakes and muscle twitches again and my reading vision got worse and I have had to get glasses. Sorry for long post but would like to hear any advice I am female age 44. Thankyou

Hi

It seems that you’ll need to go back to see a neurologist. You’ve said that your GP referred you, was this to an NHS neuro or private? If you’re still waiting for your NHS appointment, then you can maybe have more detailed testing done? You’ve said that the private neurologist only did ‘basic tests’, I presume from this that he took a history and did a physical neurological exam but didn’t arrange an MRI or refer you on to an NHS neuro?

If you’re not in the NHS system, then you could go back to your GP and get a re-referral to an NHS neurologist. You may then have all the tests for MS, or have it confirmed that it’s not MS.

It certainly sounds like you don’t have a lot of faith in the private neuro you’ve already seen, so a second opinion might be of some use.

Other than suggesting you get professional help, there’s no way that anyone on here can say, ‘oh that sounds like MS’ or ‘that’s not MS’. There are any number of symptoms of MS, some of which may bear a resemblance to some of your problems (but to a neurologist may not). There are also a lot of other medical disorders which can have MS like symptoms. (Eg a simple vitamin B12 deficiency.) Without proper testing, you’ll just worry.
