I have my 1st appointment with an MS nurse tomorrow and its been a long time coming I was dx late last year and had to rearrange my appontment with the MS nurse so that my Aunt was free to take me.
But tomorrow is the day it happens and I was wondering what actually hyappens and what can the MS nurse do?
Hya, the MS nurse, in my experience, is really great. She (or maybe he) has much more time than the neuro and knows LOADS about MS.
When I saw mine a couple of years ago I spent an hour with her. I was able to talk through a lot of symptoms that worried me. She gave me advice on fatigue and bladder problems… but really I thought the best thing was to have so long with an MS expert. She listened to me and didn’t make me feel that any problem was too small.
I think they can get neuro to refer you to other specialists… say for incontinence or speech therapy or to prescribe another drug that might help… anything like that.
Really you can talk about anything to them inc sexual issues. They’ve heard it all before and have a great deal of info from other MSers about what works and what doesn’t.
It just made me feel good to discuss some of this stuff that the neuro hasn’t the time or the patience for.

Yes I saw her today and it did go really well, she was very nice and was impressed with all the volunteer work I do and how I refuse to let this damn thing stop me.
She is going to refer me to an O/T and try to get me a social worker even though the social work team say that I cant get one until I am living by myself.
She also mention she would try and get my physio to get in touch with me again and get my GP to get me a perscription to get free gym membership, so a very worthwhile appointment I think.

Glad it went well I’ve never been offered the chance to see an ms nurse, free gym membership sounds amazing, not heard of that, I go swimming a few times a week at a gym but pay for it myself, think I might make enquiries.
It was my MS nurse advised me thast a GP can perscribe a gym membership, not actually haqd it yet but here’s hoping. Maybe speak to your GP and see what they say.
