ms & hips implants

hi we are new to this and were hoping that some of you might be able to help us.

my husband was diagnosed with ms back in 2011 after bi lateral hip replacements in 2008, and a revision also in 2008.

he started to have blurred vision in 2009 and problems with the left hip movement, lots of visits to doctors and finally sent to neurologist, who did lots of tests mri, scans, bloods, lumber etc. without a full signature he was diagnosed with MS. He started medication in july 2011 the symptoms got worse to the point that following the injection he couldnt work the next day, tiredness left him in bed. in nov 2011 he had another revision of hip and 1 month post op, he deteriorated so much he was hospitalised for 5 days on steroid infusions, this helped but unfortunately 1 month later he was worse and ended up in hospital for nearly 10 months. He returned home with limited mobility but unfortunately this has deteriorated to full time wheelchair use now.

the question we want to ask is there anyone else that have similar problems or issues, if so how did you deal with them.

we are desperate for information that might help. thanks for reading this.

Hi Nagsy! My husband hasn’t had to have hip Implants but, in the space of a year, he went from using a stick occasionally to being either bed ridden or in his wheelchair if his sores and health allow it. He stays in bed because he has an air mattress as well as a TOTO which turns him from side to side and on his back to alleviate the bed sores. He gets extremely frustrated, particularly as, at the moment the weather and his sores are pretty good, but the Coronavirus prevents him going out because I’m also carer to my 87 year old mother with mobility problems. After a long fight, we’ve managed to get him an electric wheelchair but I had to wreck my shoulder pushing a very heavy manual one first! When his sores are bad and now because of the Coronavirus he can’t go out, he blames me and thinks I’m using it as an excuse but I love to get out otherwise I’m under house arrest as well! I hope this helps you but mainly I wanted to let you know you’re not alone! Love Juliex
