Hi there, I have been diagnosed with MS this week, I thought it was the Pfizer vaccine that caused it as my symptoms started straight away after that but turns out be it has triggered a relapse, I am now concerned whether to get my second vaccine please can somebody advise what I should do, I feel very worried as I never even knew I had ms till I had my vaccine
Hi Shannon,
How did you get diagnosed with MS?
Usually takes years, MRI scans, lumber punctures etc.
Haven’t heard that the vaccine kicks off relapses but anything is possible.
Take care
Jen
You’d best talk to your neurologist about it. Try ringing the neurologist’s secretary and explain.
Thank you, my neurologist did say I should get it I asked if it could worsen my symptoms but he said there is no way he would be able to tell how my body would react to it, but it’s probably safer I do get it because my body might react worse to Covid
Hello, I have had mri scans on brain and spine show a significant amount of lesions, was diagnosed on Friday, my neurologist said it is possible that it has caused a relapse and I should have my second vaccine. Waiting for a letter to tell me which medication I should be on
You can only really make the decision for yourself. The second vaccine will no doubt be Pfizer again for you. The other option seems to be Moderna but that is of the same type (MRNA).
It is thought that the Novavax vaccine is likely to be approved very soon. That is a different type, more old fashioned, said to have fewer side effects. That could be a possibility but we don’t know the time frame yet.
Try and weigh up the risks and benefits of each, in line with your lifestyle too - are you able to keep pretty much isolated or are you in regular contact with a mix of other people so at high risk of encountering Covid? In a week or two we may no more about the Omicrom strain - just how transmissible it is and whether it is milder or just as severe / more severe than Delta. Are there vulnerable people that you mix with, who would be at greater risk if you are not double vacced?
Hello shannon I have just seen this post …. Same thing happened to me but I had my first dose of AstraZeneca in March and literally the day after I developed numerous symptoms and I didn’t know what it was and started to get worried . I had my second jab in June whilst my symptoms were still there which prompted me to seek medical advise of which I was diagnosed with rapidly evolving severe remitting relapsing ms! I’m having my booster jab next week and I’m on DMT every 5 weeks (tysabri) which I’m hoping will have my back on my next jab !!
Oh gosh, hope you’re okay!! Its very scary isn’t it, still not so sure what to do, I’m worried it would make my symptoms worse, I think I’m just going to wait until next year and have a think about whether I want to get me second one
Entirely up to you , I’m not saying the jabs caused my MS but It sure accelerated it .
