MS Consultant Appointment

My husband has recently seen a new consultant. This is the first appointment for a couple of years. I really don’t understand, the consultant seemed to think that with a bit of physio my husband would not only be able to stand but would be walking, even if with a frame. This would be nothing short of a miracle, looking at the progression of his MS over the last 20 years. He’s in his 70s, has not be able to walk for years and is quite poorly. It was a mission to get him to this appointment as he is housebound. The consultant seemed to think that a visit to the shops would do him the world of good. I can’t get him to the car. What am I missing?

No idea what you’re missing! I’m assuming based on what he said that he’s referred you to a neurophysiotherapist, who is either going to tell you what you’re missing or tell your consultant to stop wasting their time. My money is on the latter!

Good luck with it :0)

Hello @bonnie1
I think the consultant is trying to encourage your husband to become more ambulant i.e. limited walking albeit housebound for the moment but not bedbound, with the help of physiotherapy and walking aids.

After 2 years of not working, I feel my mobility has declined somewhat, due to not using my mobility as much as I used to.

I am doing my daily physiotherapy exercises though and as a new year’s resolution, I will try and get out more, just to get my legs moving at least.
