MRI Scan

Hi everyone,

I had MRI scan today my first one with contrast, I was in machine about 10-15 minutes then brought out to put the contrast in cannular, the nurse said just two more scans left, went back in and must of been in scanner for another 3 to 5 minutes Max, it all seemed very rushed, I thought I would of been scanned for longer as I had the contrast, has anyone else ever experienced this, is it normal?

Was you just getting your brain and spine done or just brain. I had just brain done first scan didn’t take long. This one lasted much longer. I suppose it all depends on how well you stay still and they get their pics or of your like me and fidget a nightmare and it takes longer. X

Hi Nat - where I go for my MRI’s they have two scanners - one is more powerful/stronger magnets than the other and is therefore quicker. I had my MRI with contrast and it was quick after they had put the dye in. Pleasant suprise when they said it was all done. I went in the stronger machine.

Hi,

Thank you for your replies,

I thought I was to get scan of head and neck with contrast to see if there where any active leisions as a follow up to my recent relapse but my letter just said head so not sure if they did neck too, my first scan I had that confirmed DX was only of my head without contrast and it was much longer, they where rushing people through quite fast so just hope they got enough good pics.

Yeah mabey it was a stronger machine and they got enough I was very still just a couple of twiches lol.

Nat, can i ask did you suffer any bad side effects with the contrast ? I’ve got a brain scan soon with contrast and I’m committing the cardinal sin of googling the contrast and have read all sorts of horror stories about it being toxic and people vomiting/fainting and getting terrible headaches etc. Just need a bit of reassurance  x

Hi I had the dye last week and didn’t feel any different had scan and drive home. Hope this helps

I also googled it and got myself scared reading all the horror stories but thankfully I felt absoloutly fine getting the dye and afterward I drove home too, the only thing I would say is that I woke up with a headache but I think this was more to do with being up too late and having a restless night sleep then having to get up for early work.

Good luck with your scan let us know how you get on, im sure you will be fine with the dye, I think most people tollerate it well.
