Mother in law coming to live with us

Hi all, looking for practical advice.

My 72 yr old mother in law is coming to live with us as her husband died earlier this year. We were to buy a flat near us which fell through at the last, therefore she is coming to stay with us until something else comes up or we figure out what to do next.

It’s not ideal. She had carer’s 3 times a day & Careline where she was. We do have a downstairs bedroom & shower room but it’s not wheelchair friendly.

Can anyone advise me if there is any financial assistance grants etc for changing bathrooms ramps etc. It’s our own house & we both work.

thanks

Hi, my MA in law moved in with us some years back, as she was widowed and lonely. I loved her company and it was all good, but she became jealous of my condition and feigned illness herself.

We had a stair lift installed for her. It was free, as she was on pension and had no savings. But, She said it was too slow and could walk faster!!!

Sorry, sorry, sorry…I’m being bitchy!¡

If you are looking for a flat for her, don’t rush into altering your home.

She was with us for 2 years and then got her own rented flat and lived there happily for 7 years.

Good luck and I hope it works out for you all.
