Now I have bought a reasonably lightweight chair while I wait for a super duper Quickie Helium, I’m wondering if anyone could advise a bit more now…
I got awarded my Mobility Certificate last Friday. (I was so sure I’d be refused and have to do battle). I will be getting a mobility car in the near future. One with the ramp/lowered floor for access is the idea. Hubby thinks it will be helpful to get a Scooter. I think I’d prefer a motorised chair.
I don’t intend to be out and about for hours on end in it, so can I ask you lovely people, which is the better option and any reason? Scooter or chair? Thank you!
Hi, I`ve done both scooter and chair…elecric wheelie.
Can you transfer from one seat to another? I had to stop using my scooter, as I needed hoisting into a chair.
My scooter went up ramps into an estate car, which worked well for a couple of years, when I could walk round the car to get into the driver`s seat.
Looking at what I would love to do, should my numbers ever come up on lotto!..is to get a drive from wheelchair car. They are lowered and everything works automatically…fab!
Are you a driver? Will you be transferring into the driving seat?
An electric wheelchair will obviously be much less tiring for you and should you wish to go out for several hours (and why not indeed!), you will be able to enjoy outings much more than being ina self propel or attendant pushed chair.

Hi Poll. Yes I can transfer easily and yes, I’ll be driving when hubby isn’t with me.
I just don’t know which to choose, scooter or motorised chair. I’m okay with self propel in shops, but for any real distance I need help being pushed. We live down a lane in countryside, so it’s not like I just drive a scooter in and out my front door to the pavement. I’ll be buying a used one and don’t want to get it wrong.
I think the main questions to ask yourself are;
how much do i need to remain as independent as possible? How can i make this happen?

hiya
chairs get priority over scooters on bus/train.
scooter u need one weight bearing leg or at least able to swing it-chair u just fall into/sit (thats from experience!)
think about unable to drive (maybe u dont want but if u were on ur own and had to use buses…)
local mobility shop to you to try out both?
ellie
That’s a good idea Ellie. I’ll ask them, though I think the chair will be the choice.
Yeh, I reckon chair will work out best in the long term.
