Mood swing

Hello,
My name is bill. I have been diagnosed with MS for 14 years. I have been on tysabri for 161 infusions. Lately it has been very difficult to manage my mood swings. I am a musician and the stress seems to be overwhelming me. I don’t know what to do

Hi Bill, Mood swings are a pain, I’ve been diagnosed 16yrs with SPMS and I have mood swings, apparently, I’ve had MS since I was 30, I’m now 64 and I’ve had mood swings for most of that time, my mood can turn on a sixpence and it’s the silliest things that do it. When it happens I truly hate it, but find it really hard to control, I really do my best, sometimes it works, but sadly most times it doesn’t, my poor hubby gets it in the neck. For me I just try and be as mindful as possible and try to read the signs. I will watch this post closely to see if other’s have it and how they cope.

You must have been on Tysabri pretty much from the start? Well, that’s good news, at least. I didn’t get to start it until MS had already done a good deal of irreversible damage: I hope that you have been luckier.

I do think that my ability to handle stress has got sharply worse over the decades with MS. Part of that is because I’m 60 and female and not working any more (so out of practice dealing with the everyday stress of working life) but it’s not just that. I do think that Prof G is onto something with his ‘smouldering MS’ theory that argues that there’s damage going on the whole damn time even if the MRI looks unchanged. It doesn’t make life easy though, does it? I wish I knew what to suggest.

Hi Alison, I don’t know what level of MS you have, ( doesn’t really matter all is rubbish ) anyway I have SP and was told years ago by my nurse + neuro that although my new MRI’s had little to no change, the MS would progress from the old lesions and boy has mine done just that, so yes I would say it’s doing damage all the time.
