Mavenclad (Cladribine) DMT - here we go!

Received my Mavenclad (Cladribine) medication and am starting my first dose today  Bring it on MS! :oncoming_fist:t3:

Has anyone taken this DMT, or is currently taking this one? I’ve heard a lot of good things, so fingers crossed it works :crossed_fingers:t3:

My only problem was how to get the tablets out of the packaging!

Other difficulty was finding a time take it when it was going to be convenient for the five days.

Bon chance

Thank you  Yes I’ve heard the packaging can be a bit fiddly; taking mine tonight, so let’s see what happens!

Hi guys - have started Week 5 meds today - fingers crossed for no/minimal side effects this week! :crossed_fingers:t3: x

Hey, can I ask how you have gotten on with this? I’m due to take it Monday for two weeks but a bit apprehensive tbh, I feel like a pin cushion at the minute as my dr had me jabbed with anything and everything ahead of Mondays first tablet.

Hi @adamvyse - personally I have gotten on well with Mavenclad so far. During the two weeks I was taking the tablets, I had barely any side effects, maybe few aches and pains to start with. After finishing the second week, I have noticed an increase in fatigue, but generally okay - so that is something to keep in mind as a potential thing to watch out for.

Just make sure to keep well hydrated. There are also a couple of really good Facebook groups (if you’re on there) for people taking the meds, which I’ve found really helpful too.

It’s quite a strong drug, so I can understand your concern completely - as far as I am aware, it is one of the big hitters in treating MS, and personally I’ve heard a lot of good things.

I’m sure you will be fine

Hi @laurenm

I am new here and also about to start Mavenclad in a few weeks (still need to have a Covid jab) but I should be on it in early December:crossed_fingers:. How are you feeling these days? Do you think it has lessened any symptoms you had before? Thank you and wishing you all the best.

Hi Paulina (@mozajka)

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I am feeling good - a little bit tired, but expected with my Immune System being lower. My head feels clearer, and a few symptoms such as numbness and double vision, seem to have calmed down. I guess I will see the full results once I finish the second round next year.

I received my Year 1 blood test results today, and my lymphocytes are at 0.7 (down from 2.3 in March), so the meds are working which is good news!

I’m sure you will be fine and if you have any other questions, or just want a friendly ear to listen, please reach out

Take care,

Lauren

Thank you @laurenm and great news on the blood test results. Glad to hear as well that you seem to feel difference and no bad side effects. I hope you keep getting on well with the meds and it only gets better and better. I am counting down weeks until I can start mine, terrified but excited too (3 more I hope!). Keep us updated please and wishing you all the best x

I am on day 4 of mavenclad traetment cycle 1 - no real side affects as yet but wondered how people have got on inbetween week 1 and 5 in terms of avoiding illness with reduced immunity? Bit anxuois seeing as we have a really bad Flu strain at the moment!

Great to hear you are doing well and with barely any side effects. I got on okay in between treatment weeks and felt generally fine, I personally just made sure to avoid anyone that had a cold etc and stay clear of crowded places - especially given the flu ‘crisis’ at the moment, that might be a good idea to try and do if you’re able to, or wear a mask (if you can), to be on the safe side x

Hi Danielle,
Glad to hear you’ve had no side effects. I am a week ahead of you (started my 1st week on 8th Dec) and similarly to you, I’ve not felt any worse (maybe a tad better overall). It is hard to say yet as yesterday i had quite a bad flare up with pins & needles all over my body, but I think this was caused by physical strain more than anything else (I did some hard intensity workouts which I have not done for a while so I think this is to blame)..but I feel ok now! So fingers crossed for you too  Similarly to @laurenm, I try to avoid crowded places, although I had to commute to London last Monday, but I wore a mask on train and tube and agreed with my manager to leave the office ahead of rush hour. I appreciate it is not easy for everyone to avoid commuting or crowds especially so close to Christmas. :frowning: Plus I’ve stocked up on vitamins and supplements, can’t hurt, right?

All the best, keep us posted how you get on with Mavenclad!

Hi @laurenm @daniellemcw77

Happy New Year. How are you both feeling these days? I’m about to start week 2 of the pills on Monday. Weirdly excited and a little scared (bit less than last time thankfully!). I realise we’re at slightly different stages of the dmt - I hope it’s going well for you. Paulina x

Hey just managed to get back in, forgot my details!

Iv completed my cycle and can report no side effects just had bloods today so will see how my numbers look in a weeks time but feeling positive. Only thing I’m struggling with is fatigue and my tingly hand it’s causing me to struggle getting to sleep. But other than that I’m feeling good

Hope your all doing well with it and it has a positive impact on your health

Hi @adamvyse, congrat on contemplating the cycle.

Sorry you get the tingling, hope it subsides soon :crossed_fingers::folded_hands:. This was the first symptom that I noticed has stopped recently, I definitely had it before Mavenclad. Fatigue is still here but less and less frequent, maybe 2-3 times a month and I think I slowly know when it might kick in (i.e. if I overdo it with activities on top of full day’s work, commuting, socialising, exercise too much…I have to choose carefully OR enjoy it but have a proper rest day after). Other than that, same as you I think, no side effects and bloods came in ‘normal’. Next neurologist appointment for me is in May.
