Looking for help with a school project

At my school, everyone picks a topic that they want to spend a whole year researching and immersing themselves in. We start out by doing formal research on the topic until about January, and then we move into an experiential component where we find something outside of school that relates to our topic and continue to learn from that. When all of this is over, we use everything that we have learned to make a tangible product that we can share with people.

I decided that I wanted to do my project on MS. Along with MS, it has evolved into learning about nonprofit fundraising too. Right now, I am in the experiential component where I need to leave the school walls and try to learn about it on my own. I am working with MS organisations to do volunteer work, in hopes that I can learn about how they go about fundraising and organising events. It is a little bit challenging working with big organisations and people who don’t know me to get a ton of inside information on planning events and things like that. I am looking into other disease nonprofits that I could work with too to get a good overview. In the end, my goal is to do my own fundraiser for MS.

I would love to hear about your experience and the things you do with organisations, other people, etc. I would love to hear any suggestions for things that I should look into. The last important thing for me to figure out and plan is how I can do my own fundraiser. I would love to hear about ideas, challenges, or logistical things that could help me.

Thank you!

hi hannah

i go to the ms therapy centre at trafford, manchester.

most fundraising is done by people with ms collecting at supermarkets.

my friend does this and happens to bump into Peter Kay who always puts a £20 note in.

they have a sponsor who provides items to auction off such as signed football strips from local teams (including man utd and city). even a luxury holiday once.

i’ll ask on tuesday when i go to the centre.

good luck and i hope you raise lots of dosh for us!

Can I ask why you chose to use ms as your project Hannah?
