LDN

Hi all, Finally got the word from the GP today. She is flatly refusing to prescribe LDN as she contacted my MS specialist and he advised her not to! Apparently some GPs have been called up in front of the GMC for prescribing an unlicensed drug. It has doctors running scared! So I need to go the private prescription route which I have told my GP I am going to do. Anyway any thoughts on this welcome. Teresa xx

Hi Teresa,

Give it a bash - the NHS can’t give you much else, and a lot of people find it works for them. I started mine in October but am still waiting for these wonderful results that I’ve heard about - I’m going to give it a year to see if it does anything. I get mine through the website Emed who send the prescription to Dicksons Chemist in Glasgow who then post it up to me in Aberdeen. You have nothing to lose apart from about £20-30 per month (can’t remember exactly how much it is).

Good luck,

Luisa x

Hi, yeh, give it a go. I don`t think it can harm you (hope Im not wrong there).

I tried it about 2 yrs ago, for 6 months.

It made my unruly bladder behave and it reduced the spasticity a lot. But it disrputed my sleep big time. Then the benefits waned, so I came off it.

Hope it works well for you. But you must increase it very slowly.

Good Luck.

ps I went the e-med route. My MS nurse gave me the letter needed for proof of MS.

.

Not aware of any doctors called before the GMC for prescribing and unlicensed drug which as has been said several times in parliament is perfectly legal thing to do. It is also very common practice in western medicine to prescribe things off label or in an unlicensed dose of a licensed drug, take half of this tablet a day for instance.

However there is nothing you can do to force a doctor to prescribe LDN so you are probably making the right move.

Thanks for all of your advice. It’s very welcome! Teresa xx

Hi Teresa!

Just wanted to say sorry for the decision the GP made! but you know my thoughts about GP’s - don’t you? lol!!!

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Thanks Teresa, She was very understanding and sympathetic but there was a**e-covering going on I think! Anyway, onwards and upwards. Teresa xx

Hi Teresa

I started LDN this week, my doctor wouldn’t prescribe it so I went through E-Med its £20.00 to register then £15.00 per 3 monthly prescription and £17.50 per month to Dickson for the drug, I thought it was worth a try going to give it 6-12 months just hope it makes a difference seeing there’s not much else out there for us.

Good luck Sue x

Hi Teresa Definitely worth a try. I have been on it for a couple of years and it has really helped the fatigue. It also helps my brain fog a bit. Also, the people at LDN research trust are another great bunch with lots of info! Good luck Chris

Hi Chris, Thanks for your input. Teresa xx

hi,

my gp wouldnt prescribe it because my neuro told him not to. i saw a private doctor for my prescription and was ok until the private doctor closed his surgery.

i told my gp and he then agreed to prescribe it.
