Is this a common symptom?

Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed a month ago. I got Cortisone injections for 3 days in the beginning to help with my nystagmus which totally disappeared after a few days. However , I have got a new symptom which is really making me worried. While walking sometimes suddenly I feel like my lower right leg isnt really working the way it should; a feeling of heaviness & discomfort. I need to stand a minute before I can continue walking. The symptom gets worse when Iam tired. I even feel a sort of lightheadedness while this happens. As I mentioned before it comes & goes. My neurologist examined me (physically)but she said that everything seems to be totally normal (balance, feelings & sensations, reflexes,…).
I wonder if this is sth anyone of you has ever experienced? My doctor has told me that it’s extremely rare to get a new attack so soon after having received such high doses of cortisone plus Mabthera.

But I am still worried since this is totally new to me. does anyone know if symptoms like mine are common everyday symptoms in ms? Does it mean that they come & go always & that I need to deal with them all my life? :pensive:
All best,
Ann

In simple terms, yes. Years ago, problems with the legs were frequently the first symptoms recognized, at least in the US. I wasn’t even aware of how common vision problems were until I joined the British forums.

I’ve now been dealing with MS for roughly 45 years, and I still get about on my own in the house. I’ve spent the last couple years occasionally using a cane when I’m out, and last month I finally bought a motorized wheelchair for shopping trips and fun.

Anyway, for many years the leg heaviness/weakness was more of a nuisance than a problem. It was worse in hot weather and when I was tired. I learned to work around it and just went on with my life. I did have to stop long-distance hiking up and down hills, but it didn’t stop me from anything else.

In time, you’ll discover what triggers yours and can either plan for it or avoid those things.

If a little bit of new activity is breaking through despite you having deployed the steroid fire-hose to extinguish the inflammation, then maybe you’ve done yourself a favour there by warding off worse trouble. I hope that things settle soon.

To beat it my friend. Try to clock when it happens.

next day, walk as much as you did the day before.
Did not occur again? try to walk little bit more until you feel it again.

and so on

Thank you so much for your answers  it means a lot.

I tend to find my walking is best in the morning but it is already deteriating on the way home for the supermarket…0.2 miles a way. If I go out walking in the afternoon I can look a little typsy on most days and a little drunk on others. all depends how much I’ve done on the day and how tired I am over all.

Yes i had something similar happen to me! I had a weird sensation down my right side and i struggled to walk. I’d have to stand still for a big ,& then j was ok to carry on again albeit at a slower pace for 5 to 10 mins then j was fine jntil the next one.
I dont really remember what treatment i had at the time probably oral steroids from my gp i think.
