Is it MS?

Hi All,

i maybe worrying over nothing, but I know forums are a great source of help.

i will get my MRI results this week, but I know this may not give a ‘full diagnosis’.

for over a year now, things have been getting worse as far as 'symptoms ’ go.

Started with pain in my feet, not great pain but noticeable.

Since then the pain is now quite severe and i hobble like an old man as it is too painful to just walk normally and the pain is all down both legs now. I have spates of trouble swallowing, like it gets stuck halfway through the swallowing action.

My hearing has also deteriorated, again it seems to be in spates and we did a simple test (stupid I know) were we turned the TV down to zero and turned it up one at a time until we could hear ‘proper’ words. My family could hear fine when the volume was on 5/6, but it took up to 20 before I could make out words.

My back started hurting around 6 months ago and unfortunately I have also soiled myself a few times when I got the urge to go to loo but it came on so quick that I couldn’t make it.

Also, my white blood cell count is very high, so much so that I had tests to rule out leukaemia.

When I mentioned MS to my doctor he didn’t even look up and virtually dismissed it, ‘let’s see what the MRI says’

I feel like im not getting any better and wondered if any of you had the same symptoms as above. My results should be back on Tuesday but I want to go armed with any and as much info as I can when I go to see my GP for the results. I don’t want to self diagnose as that isn’t the way to go and I hate reading the minefield that is the net.

Sorry if I’m sounding negative, but I’m fed up with the pain now - even tramadol didn’t help.

thanks for reading

cheers

Keith

Hi Keith,

GPs never like it when a patient suggests what a problem might be! Also most of them prefer to leave diagnosing to the specialist, so don’t take it to heart that you felt he ignored your suggestion.

Yes, your symptoms could point to ms, but they could also be a number of other conditions too!

If your gp has any queries about your MRI results, he should refer you on.

Good luck

Pollx

Thanks Polly, it’s the not knowing that’s getting me down, never mind the pain and the rest of it. At least if I get some kind of diagnosis we can then tackle it instead of just chucking painkillers at it which don’t work :frowning:

thanks again

Keith x
