I have been Incontinent for many years mainly urine and occasionally bowel, currently I use pads but now find them useless and I am fed up to the back teeth being wet and leaving a trail behind me. I leak all the time but as soon as I stand up it is like a waterfall. Has anyone had any experience of catheters or Super Pubic and what comments do you have about them. It has been suggested I self catheterise two or three times a day but my hands are eaten up with Arthritis and I don’t think I could manage to do this, I have been thinking about a permanent catheter, any thoughts would be gratefully received.
Hi love, I don’t use one but have read that they really are life-changing! Our lovely Teresa on here uses one and she will no doubt respond to you… but by all accounts they really do make life easier and no more waterfalls!!!
Hello there, I self-catheterise on a daily basis and this has been life-changing for me - it is wonderful. However, if your hands won’t manage the job then a permanent catheter sounds a great idea. I am surprised that you have been left so long without any help with your situation. You must be feeling so down about it. Please make sure someone helps you with this, I am sure it will change your life for the good - I think that is a major underestimation of how much of an improvement this will make to you. Please let us know how you get on. Good luck! Teresa xx
Hi there Until very recently I used intermittent catheters (for 10 years) my mobility has deteriorated making it very difficult for me to use them. After a recent bladder stone removal op I was left with an indwelling catheter in place. Although my consultant wants me to change it to a supra pubic catheter I’ve got to say it has made my life so much easier. I have a valve attached so my bladder still tells me when I need to go and if I’m in the car for example I just open the valve into a bottle!! Not very ladylike but it’s far better than having an accident or searching for disabled loos!! If intermittent catheters are not an option this is the route you must pursue as it really will make your life much easier… Good luck and take care Linda x
