HSCT and wig question+ Merry Xmas ofcourse

Hi everyone,

Merry Christmas, hope all is going well for everyone or as well as it can be for us.

Recently had my first half of HSCT, so far not too bad but the second half is more intense…least thats what I see from research. Both stages use Chemo and I believe lower dose the first half. Even on the weak dose I’ve lost my hair

Odd for a guy but my hair was long, really long, just below my shoulder blades. Before it started falling out it was a mix of Purple + Blue + Teal, always brightened my days when I felt a bit down which was several times a week.

Even indoors my head and neck is freezing when the rest of me is fine and even a little to warm. Only have a few Beanies to wear but they are a bit much for indoors and do nothing for my neck. Scarf indoors is so strange. Really missing my hair. Seriously considering a wig but the longer ones can be quite pricey. Does anyone if I could get help for/towards one from Nhs England for HSCT?

Hi, honestly scarf indoors, this past cold snap I doubled up on socks, wore gloves, a hat and scarf in bed . Sure I looked ridiculous but hey ho.
I love the sound of your locks, sorry they have fallen for now. As to whether you can get funds for a wig, good question. I have copied across a link maybe worth a read.

Rogue

Oh yeah, I read that back in Jan when I was put forward for HSCT. Blame forgetting on MS and maybe the Chemo too. Sure I wasn’t this forgetful years ago :slightly_smiling_face: That’ll give me a starting point. Thanks

I wore a hat and scarf in bed for the first 3 nights after I shaved the rest off. No way I could hide all the patches plus I was fed up of it just falling out everywhere all the time. Oh I did have some facial hair that helped point out I am male as long hair often got me confused as female. Ok facial hair didn’t help those looking at me from behind but it was the best I could do.Understandable and funny when I’d turn and they’d look shocked

2 days after my hair started to fall out and I spotted a few small hairs in my breakfast…my beard so that had to go immediatelty.

:hand_with_index_finger_and_thumb_crossed: my eyebrows don’t fall out. Unlike my head and face I haven’t been able to pluck them like a chicken

That’s great that you have started your treatment, and I hope that it goes really well for you. I’m sorry about your lovely hair, though. When your treatment is finished I hope that it grows back healthy and strong.
