How were you diagnosed?

Probably been covered many times but I can’t find it, If you are diagnosed, what tests have you had, which were positive? And how long did it take? Thanks

Thanks Val, was the mri very conclusive then?

MRI , lumber puncture. I was dx within 6months I was lucky I didn’t have to wait long. Karen

I had MRI and an LP about 6 months after I first saw a GP with symptoms. Results were lesions in my spine but not in my brain and a positive LP. Diagnosed with probable MS.

Had another MRI eleven months later which showed lesions in my brain too and MS was confirmed.

This was in 1998, so MRI wasn’t as good as it is now. The whole process took about 15 months.

2 MRIs 18 months apart for me…

Why 2 x MRI’s was your first one clear/inconclusive?

I had the normal bloods, emg tests, mri which showed lesions and then a positive lp. I was very fortunate that I was diagnosed in 6 months.

I think the diagnostic criteria requires ‘dissemination in space and time’, i.e. there were lesions on my first MRI but my second MRI, 18 months later, showed more lesions.

From being referred to a neuro by my gp I had one MRI of my brain within two weeks followed by a whole spine MRI four weeks later. I was diagnosed five weeks after that at my first neuro appointment. Neuro also did lots of physical tests at appointment before dx. Both MRI scans showed lesions. Mish x

took 18 months from first signs and 1 lesion on spine and positive LP to relapse 15months later followed by MRI jan 2012 to results

march 2012 which showed lesions on brain and led to dx of RRMS

The problem that led me to diagnosis was facial hair!!! Sent to endocrinologist for bloods. These lead him to send me mor MRI of head. He saw fuzzy patches and sent me to neurologist. Repeat MRI of head and spine saw changes so diagnosed Min Ps had laser treatment for facial hair - how embarrassing.
