How Long To Hear

Hi, hope everyone’s feeling well. I got a referral from my GP on the day of my appointment for Walton, 6 weeks from date of appointment, he printed it out there and then but you got me thinking I’ve got it wrong - could this just be a date to get an actual appointment - it has a time and directions in the print out. Might go back to GP’s bit confused now.

Really sumslady? Wow sounds like an appt if it has directions will your gp do my referral there lol. Little ginger another quick one. My referral was sent 3rd June heard nothing back yet

Hi Sumslady. Perhaps its a case of appointment triage. Your symptoms are in need of investigation much more than mine perhaps. So whereas you have got a 6 week appointment, I have been put on the general waiting list of 20 weeks (not 26 as I put earlier - sorry). I got referred back in early March and had not heard anything so I gave them a call. I spoke to a most helpful lady who told me that the waiting list was 20 weeks from the date you get put on it. I was put on it on the 22nd March, so I can expect my appointment in August sometime. So sorry if my post concerned you and I am glad you have such an early appointment. Just had a thought though, maybe mine is longer as I have had to go through 2 different Trusts. My hospital is the Wrexham Maelor normally, so maybe there is a delay when you have to go to a different trust. Either way, I am still not going to get my appt before Aug. lol. Angela xx PS. Sorry, but forum wont let me use the return key

Arwen. Try phoning them and see what they tell you. Hopefully you will get seen quicker too. Angela x

Well I didn’t have time to ring today but in a miraculous coincidence my letter was here when I got home and my appointment is in 6 weeks (making it 2 weeks from GP referral to neurologist; 2 more weeks till MRIs; 1 week after that for diagnosis then 8 weeks to ms clinic). Still thinking that’s not bad going for the good old NHS

Hi again Sumslady. I have just looked at your profile and yes, I would say your symptoms do warrant earlier investigation than mine. I have not had any numbness or loss of feeling. I have only had Optic Neuritis and Trigeminal Neuralgia as my main symptoms. And TN could be just a random blood vessel and not necessarily MS. PS. Good name you got there Ang. And with a username like yours, may I ask what you do? Angela x

I tried last Angela and had a nightmare. Gp surgery gave me one number of the Warrington place where they said referral had gone, they were private not nhs! Phoned Walton who said they had no referral for me vut that the cinsultant I was referred to did clinic at Warrington general phobed them who said they’d look into it. Well they phoned back to say Walton do the appts and had my referral (eh!!) but no date yet likely Sept. My gp did write back last Wednesday to say optician had now found a nystagmus and said neuro cause but whether they thought that more important was up to them-depending what route letter goes this time I guess

And I’m fed up today my back went Saturday morning started spasming and got worse all weekend so I’m loaded on painkillers just to walk without going all jelly legs. Then my best mate did the classic its not ms cos I knew someone years ago with it and they were in a wheelchair in 6mths its nothing and refused to talk about it anymore :frowning:

My post didn’t appear (maybe 'caues I used a smiley!). I didn’t get chance to ring to find out about my appointment but lo and behold the letter was here when I got home from work and my appointment at the MS clinic is in 6 weeks. So, still a while to worry but a bit better than 6 months!

Yay sunflower 6weeks is still a while to worry but nowhere near as bad as 6mths and good to have a date

Hi Angela, yeah great name lol, I’m an accountant believe it or not! Sound like I can’t string two sentances together half the time, sorry I did panic when I saw 26 week, I know 6 weeks isn’t long but it feels like a lifetime, I’m sure it’s a referral and possibly is just triage. Sounded like mad woman with my directions but have to say yeah my Gp’s are pretty fab. Ang xx

Sunflower that’s great news, a lot better than 6 months, hope it goes well xx

Sumslady, you have got one up on me again. Not only have you got an earlier appointment then me, but I am just a lowley Registered Bookkeeper. Lol

Arwen. Sorry to hear your back is playing up. Having had herniated disks in the past, I truly sympathise. And as for your mate, perhaps he doesn’t know as much about MS as he would like to think. Next time he has his back to you, stick your tongue out at him. Childish? Heck yeah! But it will make you feel a whole heap better. lol. Angela. (the other Angela)

Thanks sumslady. I hope so too! I have my diagnosis in a letter so it’s there plain as day but I still think that because he was ‘only’ a general neurologist and not an ms specialist he might be wrong!

Hey Angela no shame in being a Bookeeper, I still have some exams to pass to qualify - hope I can last the journey!

Of course you can. What is stopping you? You have come this far. I am planning to start the AAT process, although with the quals and experience I have, I can go right in at level 4. I am looking forward to starting it in September and I ain’t letting the fact I feel poorly stand in my way!! lol

Ha ha Angela think I will stick my tongue out I love being childish. All these clever bookkeeper accountant people on here and totally agree about not letting anything stop you

Arwen, you could always try a Rik Mayall, bottomesque stylee two fingered salute too. Or are you too young to remember that?

As we three seem to be at Walton, where are you from? I am from Buckley, NE Wales. Angela
