Holidays, Train to deal with Catheters etc

Hello,

I would like to take a member of my family away for a short holiday who has progressive MS and no leg function. I can transport the wheelchair, hoist and special mattress but I also need to know how to look after the personal medical issues such as catheters etc . Where can I find out what is needed and how to train for this care?

Any info is appreciated.

Jill

How lovely! How about contacting their ms nurse, a nurse attached to your gp surgery or maybe a local ms community support centre, if there is one in the area?

Hi, like your relative, I am a full time wheelie needing a hoist and have a suprapubic catheter.

Is the catheter this type or a urethral one!

Either way you need to keep the outlet scrupulously clean.

After my shower the area is cleaned again with senset…A soapless foam I get on prescription.

I use a day bag which is changed for a night bag. Both bags are cleaned with hot water and antibacterial soap. I discard the bags and use new ones every 3 days.

Is there anything else you need to know? Enjoy the holiday!

Thanks so much.
