help - so confused!

Hi, I am so confused, is there any other reason a person can have white matter lesions on the brain other than m.s? thanks xx

Hi Amy, I believe ageing in general causes white matter lesions, smoking, high blood pressure ect can cause them. I think with MS it’s more on the location of the lesions in the brain or spinal cord that is specific to MS is what they’re looking for when diagnosing. If you google the McDonald criteria it will state which areas are more specific to ms for example juxtacortial and periventricular ect. These areas for white matter are more rare in other pathology than ms. X
