Headache help :(

Hi everyone Does anyone else suffer with really bad headaches? Feels like my head and face are gonna explode! I’ve tried every pain killer I can get my hands on paracetamol, ibuprofen, codeine, NOTHING helps :(. How does everyone cope? It’s affecting my sleep now and certainly isn’t helping my dizziness, sorry for sounding like a mardy old cow but I’m just so fed up, need some relief fast Thanks for reading x

Sounds like you need to seek help from your GP. I suffer from migraines and could cheerfully cut my head off when I get one! I have worked my way through various prescribed medication for them. I’m now on a daily tablet which did seem to be working for a few months but I have had migraines in the last few months so I may have to go back and admit that they are not working now. You need to write down when you get the headaches and try to describe where the pain is and what it feels like to help your GP work out what type of headache it is.

Thanks Tracey looks like a trip to gp after all x

I had cluster headaches which nothing worked for.

In the end a newly qualified locum said well why on earth haven’t you tried sumatriptin injections.

They saved my sanity.

I have seen Karen in the past has told people to ask for a referral to migraine specialists.

I do hope you find something to help soon.

Hello,

I recently suffered from bad headaches.

I tried different pain killers with didn’t touch it.

Someone suggested I cut out ALL CAFFINE and sinsce then they have been much better.

I drink lots of tea and coffee all day.

I drink decaf tea, decaf coffee and fruit tea - brilliant!!

Give it a try, it may help

Kind regards,

Jackie

Thanks everyone I’ve spoken to our headache nurse and she’s mentioned amitriptyline not sure if I should go down that road yet or just try changing my diet first x

You need to see your GP for persistent headaches as they may or may not be related to your ms. I started having headaches about a year ago. I was told codeine was probably making them worse. I was prescribed sumatriptan which does help most of the time. There are some Neurologists who now specialise in Migraine but you need to see your GP to determine cause. I hope you get help soon as I know how disabling they can be.

Migraine shuts down the digestive system so you can take as many painkillers as you like, but if they don’t digest, they won’t work. Taking an anti-nausea pill gets the digestive system working again so you need to take one of them AND the painkillers to get some relief. (Unless you can get painkillers that don’t need to be swallowed.)

Like the others have said, I recommend seeing a specialist.

I saw a migraine specialist neuro last year. I didn’t want to take more pills so he advised 400mg vitamin B2 a day. (If they didn’t work, then I was to increase my pregabalin - neuropathic painkillers can work as migraine preventatives.) Luckily, they have worked a charm for me. I do still get migraines and take domperidone (anti-nausea) and sumatriptan for them, but I get a fraction of the number I used to get. B2 doesn’t work for everyone and it isn’t an official treatment for migraine, but there have been a couple of pretty convincing studies done which show that it can relieve migraine in the majority of people. If you decide to try it, then start on 100mg a day and build the dose gradually (I increased it by 100mg a week and noticed a big difference at 300mg). It turns urine bright yellow so don’t be alarmed!

Please see a specialist though - it might not be migraine or MS.

I do not suffer from migraines but do suffer daily from headaches. Feels like a constant hangover without the party or fun A few hours or a constant dull pain and several times during the day, Some times to the extent I believe it to be a sever migraine as it can last 2 days none stop But it is a daily symptom from my illness. All our wee ms family have different symptoms and I don’t believe two people are ever the same.simular yes! I can’t remember the last time I woke and had a full day without a headache at some part of the day. I don’t have a cure or words of wisdom as everyday is different. Somedays it takes mild to strong painkillers, sometimes a wee sleep I find red bull seems to help. Sorry I can’t really help just wanted you to know your not alone
