Hi all, just wondering how much our MS might be protecting us from Covid. Although to be honest I had a ‘flu’ in early December along with a bunch of other people from church, with symptoms exactly like Covid. I think they will eventually work out that this virus has been around longer than they think. Two people with that flu ended up in hospital with pneumonia!
I think most of you know this but just in case someone doesn’t… MS does protect us from viruses and many people with it hardly ever catch a virus. It’s complicated why… but basically our immune systems see the MS damage as a ‘foreign body’ so is always very active trying to fight it. It’s one of the reasons we have such bad fatigue… our immune systems are always in battle mode and boot out any virus that get’s in its way!
Be interesting to see if anyone with MS has had it.

On reflection, I have seemed to avoid colds and flu for some time. Probably only had a mild cold 2 or 3 times in the past 5 years.
However, having seen the video posted by whammel by the Neurologist on another thread, it might be that MS could make COVID-19 more dangerous because of the body over reacting to the infection. I know (again from info posted on these forums) that some MS DMDs are being studied as a possible treatment for COVID-19.
If Tecfidera ever turns out to be a cure for it, I’m buying a yacht
I think you are right Pat.This virus might have been here long before we knew!In Nov/dec last yr my family were all ill with covid like symptoms where 2 of us were very mild,other 2 were more ill.Lots of people i know said the same thing that they think they might have had it around xmas time.The medics are even saying they think a lot of people might have had without even knowing.
I think you’re right cos my daughter, who normally shakes things off pretty quickly, had some sort of virus just before Christmas that really made her quite ill for a few days, and really difficult to shake off.
She was only saying the same thing last week to me, but I suppose we will never know for sure.
If it’s not this that bites us it will be something else, I have an idea that all these tests etc could actually track something that could help us/MSers. Optimist?
Hello Pat , its lovely to see you more often on here , we have missed you. I haven’t been affected by this awful virus but my Neigbor said she was very Ill in December with pneumonia and she wonders if it was coronavirus now. I’m being very careful, I canceled my agency and carers for now. It’s been hard but Lee was furloughed and hes been helping me.Ive not been shopping or seeing anyone for weeks now accept Rochelle my daughter shes registered as a carer and hasnt been anywhere for weeks so she wont pass anything on to me . I’m glad I’ve got my friends from our church they are very good and make sure that we are all looked after . I go on zoom for our meetings twice a week and we organised a Saturday morning letter writing group . I completely agree with you about man abusing the earth , its so sad because it’s such a beautiful place, I keep watching my baby sparrows being fed each morning it reminds me to thank God. The main reason we don’t get colds or other viruses is because we aren’t mixing with the general public. I don’t really go out so I’m not exposed to anything. My shopping is delivered. I love being at home and if I want fresh air I open the windows. As for the planet being destroyed. Nature will deal with it as it is with the human race. The population is out of control so nature introduced Covid19. Everything happens for a reason.
