I am currently in hospital since Thursday. I have had a tightness around my stomach for over a year; it’s as if I have something very very tight tied around me. Thursday I was in severe pain on my left side and a CT scan showed diverticulitis for which I am being pumped full of anti-biotics. The tight feeling around my stomach is unexplained. Lying here in hospital I googled it and up popped the reference to the MS hug. Has anyone had that and is it a sign of possible MS? I should say my mother had MS from the age of 50. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? I have nothing else going on
To the best of my knowledge, the MS hug doesn’t affect the stomach, and I’ve never heard of anyone dealing with it for anywhere near a year. It feels like your rib cage is being squeezed by a giant snake, the same pressure the whole way around. Mine last 15 minutes. Some people deal with them for several hours or a few days. They range from uncomfortable to downright painful.
I would wait and see what happens after your meds kick in. It could very well be a side effect of the diverticulitis.
Thanks very much for the reply. On a second search, I found exactly what you have described and that is not what I am feeling. I broke my own rule of not googling symptoms, lesson learned.
