Has anybody come off there medication to try start a family. Iam currently taking tekfadera and have been for over a yr now it’s going really well I haven’t had any relapses and very minimal side effects When I decided on taking this medication they explained to me I wouldn’t be able to try get pregnant on this medication and at the time this wasn’t even on my radar as it was still all sinking in about having MS in the first place Now I have started to come to tearms with it it’s becoming a subject me and my husband are talking about obviously I will be talking to my ms nurse and others involved just wondering if there was any personal experiences with this I am 38 so tick tick is the clock

I think if the medics were honest the answer is they don’t know what the effect of some of the drugs may be on the unborn child.

I’ve seen the advice that someone should come off some drugs for at least 6 months before trying for a baby but not sure where that figure came from and to which drugs it applies.

I wonder if it’s possible to assess the level of the drug in your blood and when the level hits zero then it’s o.k to try for a baby.

There must be a number of women who have become pregnant whilst on DMD.s and there have been no reports of any problems.

I wonder if it may be a good idea were you and your husband checked to rule out any health issues which would make getting pregnant difficult.

What you don’t want is to come off a drug - two years down the line you haven’t become pregnant and your m.s. may have worsened.

I guess what you have to do is research the whole topic of DMD’s and Pregnancy and not be fobbed off with what may be vague opinions.

and to add to the previous message - when you feel comfortable with the advice you get then go for it. There could be nothing worse than spending nine months worrying about things.
