Gary Barlow!

Just been to see him in concert he was brilliant! But, got to the seats in the gods, felt slight uneasy at first. Then he came on stage, as time went on felt less confident as people got up around me, enjoying themselves(good on them) but I started to feel confined and as if I was going to faint. Then the whole top stood up and under me everything started to move! After trying for about 10 mins, To control myself I knew that I just had to get out of there. Went really hot, legs numb and room spinning, went outside and just burst into tears!! What a twit, has anyone else felt like this as it my first time?

hi billpat

the phones4u arena in manchester has lots of steps with no handrails and it makes me feel insecure.

the band (elbow) were fantastic although my ms peculiarities tried to spoil it for me.

just as i get settled i need to pee (again) and its back to feeling dizzy

the worse thing is that if you buy tickets online, there is no option for disabled seats.

i bought tickets for my husbands birthday (roger waters) and i paid extra for seats in a suite.

that was a fab option because we had reserved parking,

there was a telephone that you ordered your drinks from and they were brought in to you.

still a massive trek to the toilets though.

it won’t stop me going but i have my reservations.

hope you continue to go to gigs

Hi there, yes I have felt like that before many years before my diagnosis. I don’t think it’s anything to do with MS. It might be your anxiety on the night, the people and noises overwhelming you. I would have done what you did… go outside and get some air. Don’t be harsh on yourself. xx

I’ve had similar issues - not dizzy but feeling somehow unsteady and unsafe (it’s difficult to describe). I have been to the MEN Arena with a friend a few times, we both have problems with the stairs but we are both better going up than down and neither of us likes the steepness of the tiered seats at the MEN. We would both be much happier with a handrail up the middle of the steps. And in any theatre or arena, but particularly the MEN, I don’t particularly like having to get up to let other people past - not because they’re disturbing me but because it makes me feel unsteady and like I might fall. I know rationally that if I stand still against my chair, it’s the person passing me is more at risk of falling, but it’s as if the rational part of me has switched off!

I hope this was just a one-off and that you can still enjoy going to gigs.

Hi Been to lots of gigs since dx. I call the accessibility booking line ang get tickets for seats for those with mobility problems. These seats are accessed without stepped areas. You don’t need to be a wheelie user to sit there. Much better view even with people standing in front. Much more space. Some venues offer carer tickers foc. Seeing KOL in June at Sheffield. Can’t wait. Neil

Thanks for the replies, just really frightened at the time and didn’t know what to do for the best. At least it’s a lesson learned possibly the hard way, but will try again hopefully!

i truly recommend getting a suite at the MEN/Phones 4u arena.

it costs a bit more but definitely worth it.

blackpool winter gardens have some good bands on and the seating for disabled is on the balcony.

band on the wall in manchester is too much standing unsupported so try the balcony, its not ideal but do-able.

manchester academy 1 has good disabled seating but the other academies don’t.

the very best support for disabled is at festival number 6 in portmeirion. a disabled camping ticket means you can take your car into the site (everyone else has to park in the next town and get a shuttle bus).

they have access assistants who really pull out all the stops. i saw one answer her phone and say “dont worry i’m coming for you” to a lady who had gone a very long way in a self propelling wheelchair and couldnt make it back. i saw her pull back in with a lady and her wheelchair in the jeep, both laughing their heads off.

we should make a list of good accessible venues.

keep on rocking!

I’m going to a gig in Cardiff next month and will be seated upstairs and yes, I’m nervous. I’ve never even sat down at a gig before unless it’s been at an arena and eveyone stands up!

I’m really excited and terrified at the same time - and as it’s a band that I’m big on, I aready know where some friends are seated near us too. Crossing fingers anway.

Gutted for you that you had a bit of a wobbly moment, how was Gary tho? I hope you still had some enjoyment from it.
