Gabapentin and lower back pain

Hi and help please
I have PPMS and my MS nurse has recommended Gabapentin which I started on 3.5.25. Within 4 days I’ve developed a chronic pain in my lower back, I read that it can be a side effect of Gabapentin (I’m on 300mg x 3 daily), I just wanted to ask if anyone has experienced this and if it will go once I’m used to the tablets?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated from you amazing people, thank you Anita

I started gabapentin at about the same dose and had some muscle aches at first, but after about a week my body adjusted and the pain eased off.

Hi XdonnieX
Thank you so much I really appreciate your response, it frightened me that I’ve suddenly developed this crippling back pain. I’ll put up with it now and see how things go as I know it’s early days so hopefully as you say it will hopefully settle fairly soon.
Thanks again and my best wishes Anita xx

Hi, as mentioned the pain should ease off after a week on the meds. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water as well to make sure a) hydration and b) everything keeps moving through because Gabapentin can cause constipation for some.

Hi TheresaB
Thank you for your information, I do think the back pain is easing slightly which I’m so pleased about and the pills are definitely working on the neuropathy pain which is brilliant, so I really want to stick with it if I can.
I’ll definitely up the intake of water though cheers for letting me know.
My very best wishes to you, Anita xx

Hi XdonnieX
You were quite right, 10 days in and things have settled down! So grateful to you for the advice. All the best Anita

Hi Theresa B
