Feeling strange for the last few months.

First posting and thank you for this excellent website.

Over the past year, I have been feeling extremely tired, down and lacked motivation or interest to do things. (usually healthy and played lots of sport but not much in 2012). When tired I would sometimes get a nasty pain behind my right eye.

In April, I had electric shock feeling in the head and then past out. It felt like electric going from side to side inside my head. I was taken to A&E and was given the full mot! CT, LP , blood tests and ECG. All these came back ok but was kept in for a few days until I saw the neurologist.

The neurologist booked me in for an MRI and EEG to rule out epilepsy and thought it had been a faint. These results were sent to my GP epilepsy ruled out… The GP also ordered a full set of blood tests which were all ok.

I have experienced odd feelings since April - (sorry for the list!)

short term pins and needles mainly in my arms and legs, random itchy feelings , crawling like a little spider on my lower legs, electric tingles when I move my head or eyes, burning sensation in the tips of my fingers like someone is sticking a pin in and the odd cold / wet feeling if I have sat in something. Very rarely drip over a flat floor!

I have told the GP about the above because all the results were ok didn’t know what it could be. I’m back to see the GP in October but was wondering if I should ask to be referred to the neurologist?

Would the neurologist just look for signs of epilepsy form the MRI results or do a general scan for other things?

Many thanks

Hi its very worrying and can be scary too, when our bodies start doing something we cant understand for sure!

It`s good to know that the hospital have already done tests.

Next time you see your GP, discuss the problems you are still having, and if he/she doesn`t offer a referral, then suggest it yourself and see what they say.

There could be any number of conditions responsible for your symptoms.

Good luck and let us know how it goes, eh?

Hello, and welcome to the site

The scans you’ve already had will probably have included at least one or two of the type of scans that are good for spotting MS lesions and the radiologist would have said something in his/her report if there were anything obviously MS-related on them so it’s probably unlikely that there’s anything there. Of course, all of that depends on what scans were done so it may be worth finding out.

I would have to say that someone with a negative MRI, LP, EEG and other tests is unlikely to have MS, but no test is perfect so anything is possible. But MS is just one of hundreds of different things that can cause weird symptoms - that’s why neurology is a very tricky thing!

One thing is sure - GPs generally have very little knowledge and experience of neurology, so if you want to get to the bottom of what’s going on, you will almost certainly have to see a neuro.

I hope you get some answers soon.

Hi MS43 and Rizzo,

Many thanks for your replies and really appreciated.

Hopefully it’s just a blip in my health but will ask to see the neurologist to be on the safe side.

One thing he tell me in hospital was to avoid having a hot bath. I forgot on one occasion and my legs went to jelly as I stood up and fell back in . Strange feeling as my legs had lost their strength. That will teach me to listen!

Thanks again.xx

I’ve just been to see my GP as she wanted to see me again for a general check up.

Since my last posting I have continued to have pins and needles mainly in my right arm, leg and face, pain behind my right eye, very tired and the odd sharp pains in the tips of my fingers / toes.

A few new things - sometimes I find it difficult to focus on the computer screen and the words or line graphs move side to side very quickly . I need to look away to refocus. My right eye in the outer corner twitches for ages . My eyes sometimes feel like they set off minor electric shock / tingles when I move them. This doesn’t happen all the time but very weird.

I noticed this week that after kneeling down repairing a few cables my hands and legs cramped up and couldn’t release the screwdriver from my hand. I needed to pull my fingers open. This took about an hour and I found that for the next few hours I felt odd with a very slight trembling feeling all around my body. Very odd. I tried to drink a cup of tea and had difficulty tilting the mug towards my lips .

The GP mentioned these various feelings sounded like MS but all the tests were clear. She mentioned that I would need to be referred back to the neurologist if things don’t improve by the next check next month. The GP has been brilliant to date.

Hello and welcome,

Yes I know a little late but still feel for you. Glad to hear that your gp has been brilliant and hope he does refer you if necessary. Wishing you good luck.

Many thanks.

Quick update - I had another appointment with my GP today and she has referred me back to the neurologist as the first was mainly to do with my faint.

At the moment I still have pins and needles in my arm, leg and face.

My feet feel like they are vibrating. The feeling is like standing on vibrating marbles. This feeling is like an internal mini buzz not painful but odd. Also affects my lower leg and sometimes all my body has a mini buzz.

Have you had these vibrations?

Something is not right and the tiredness is driving me mad.

Thanks for the feedback and your support. It will be interesting to see how long the referral takes… Fingers crossed.

Glad you’ve got a referral back to the neurologist - it’s progress!

I get the vibrations as well - weird, but only really annoying when they’re particularly strong or if it’s in my face (which fortunately for me isn’t often). I know quite a few others here get it to so you’re not alone! I think it feels like my mobile phone has been set to vibrate and implanted in my body!

Hi

I’m still waiting for the referral but that’s ok.

The last two weeks I have had itchy lower legs from the knee like something crawling. The numbness comes back in my right cheek and get a pain behind my right eye. No pain killers help apart from a good nights sleep. Sometimes my vision seems a little blurry and text on the monitor moves sideways like a little earthquake.

My right lower suffers from pins and needles most days then feels like it’s in a clamp before calming down.

The new one for me over the last few weeks is the upper right arm feels like it’s in a blood pressure sleeve that’s way too tight.

It’s a similar feeling to the pins and needles but more intense. It almost knocks out the use of my arm until the feeling passes.

Have you felt this blood pressure sleeve feeling? Many thanks.

Sorry, forgot to mention tighness around my right side of ribs is a new one for me. It’s like if you push you hand into the side of your ribs.

Its horrible not knowing what it ism but only you know how you feel and its hard to explain to somebody else. It feel like people do not believe you.

Your symptoms could be a number of things so no one can really say

Hi, I’d like to add my two pennyworth, have you seen an optician or opthamologist, may be a good idea if your eyes are playing up. Wish you luck.
