Feel like I'm going round in circles!

So, a neuro finally called me back! Not my one but the registrar neuro, something like that. Well after telling him my new symptoms, back of head pressure when lying down, worsening neck pain, keeping me awake, tingly lips & a numb bottom, he asked if I was on medication - no. He then said have you had a lumbar puncture - no. Explained about evoked potential booked for tues & had an MRI to which I wasn’t happy with as it wasn’t a satisfactory scan considering they ordered brain & neck & only done my brain, from that scan she decided she’d seen enough, after firstly telling me that they hadn’t scanned my neck & as she suspected my neck to have the problem I needed another MRI, the next day she called me back & said I think I’ve seen enough to see no inflammation, from that phone call I wasn’t satisfied how the day before it wasn’t good enough then it was the next! So, I purchased the disk to see for myself exactly how much of my neck could be seen. The quality is awful! And it was brought to my attention that it was the localiser she was doing her diagnosing from! I told my doc about it & showed him too & he also thought the same so kept the disc to show someone to get their opinion, haven’t heard back as of yet. Well, I mentioned this to the neuro on the phone today too, that I wasn’t happy with it so he got it up on screen. After saying to him can you please please please give me your honest opinion on what you think on the scan, is it good enough considering you can’t see all of cervical spine… He actually said “I agree you can’t see all of it”!!!’ HALEYLOOYA!!! Why did my actual neuro Not just admit it wasn’t good enough… Because the registrar neuro hasn’t actually seen me in person he said there is nothing he can do expect pass on another message to my neuro to contact me, she only works mon & tues! I called tues but have heard nothing! Has anyone had dealings with Dr Colchester?

Time to chase up the GP perhaps?

I wouldn’t have an ounce of faith in any neuro who couldn’t tell the difference between a localiser and a proper scan :frowning:

Second opinion???

Karen x

Hi Karen, Yes I have a phone appointment with him tomorrow morning. I don’t hold much faith in her anymore! (The neuro) she was so lovely my first visit too! Who do i ask to have a second opinion, my gp to refer it somewhere else or the neuro herself? As I told her I wasn’t happy with her saying it wasn’t fine then it was & that I purchased the disc & thought it was awful, to which she replied that 6 people have looked at it! 4 neuro’s & 2 radiologists! Really?! After that comment who do I turn too? If its true that is! I suppose the fact this registrar neuro agreed with me gives me some hope, although I didn’t write his name down!!! So frustrated with myself for that! Stacey xx

Hello Stacey,

Visit your gp and ask them to refer you to another neuro. I did just that but not over an ms situation and they did refer me to someone else, you are quite entitled to ask for a second opinion.

Thank you Janet, I’ll ask him tomorrow xx

Hi, Do let us know how you get on, please.

Will do  Xx

There is a chance that your disc is incomplete and they’re looking at things that you don’t have. Maybe phone the MRI unit and check?

If what you have is all they have too, then it is utter rubbish. Diagnosing from a localiser?! Ridiculous!!!

Your GP can refer you to another neuro. He’s seen the images and knows they are completely unsuitable. Your neuro’s refusal to redo it should be more than enough to get you a second opinion. Do make sure that you see someone at a different hospital who has no relationship with the current neuro. They often stick together, even when the evidence is against it :frowning:

Yes I’ve checked, all the pics are on there, even an old x-ray I had last year from when I was having side pain. She is based at Southampton but comes down to Queen Alexandra on a Mon & Tues, I’ll have to try & go to St Richards in Chichester, can you choose where you go? She hasn’t even sent over my bloodwork results to my gp! She’s pretty pants! Thank you for the advice Stacey xx

Update: Both my GP & neuro called The GP is letting me know mon about the second opinion on my MRI as he’s passed it on. The neuro is doing nothing more, I explained the new symptoms & she still thinks its nothing & it will all go away soon… I asked for a full spine scan & she said I don’t think it’s necessary although your having pronlems with your legs, you had arm trouble too & that wouldn’t show anything down lower…

I don’t get this insistence that the scans are sufficient. From what I saw, the quality is terrible.

I guess wait till Monday and take it from there.

Yes, you can choose where you go. Make sure she isn’t known at Chichester before you book. And try and find the name of a MS specialist that’s at Chichester so you can ask for a specific neuro.

I know it’s Really frustrating!!! How do I find out if she’s linked there? What if others are that know her, will that effect anything, would she find out? Also do I say I’ve been seen elsewhere or not it will the gp do that, should he? Sorry for all the questions. Xx

I’ve just been to Chichester, and so far so good! Only been a couple of weeks mind! The neuro there is dr hammans, he was pretty good, but I can only base that on one visit! Got MRI app through really quickly as well! Imo x

Just check that she doesn’t also have a clinic there and ideally that the person you see doesn’t have a clinic at the other hospitals she works at. Best to see someone who doesn’t work with her. It’ll probably be fine anyway! It’s just a precaution.

Ooh darn! Dr hammans also works at Southampton!
